If you are looking to polish trailer rails or pontoon boats then this video is for you. Evan and Ty aka Darrel from Evan's show the multiple steps in polishing trailer frame rails or pontoon boats. The same process they do on this Mac Trailer rail will also work on pontoon boats. As always never sand deeper than you have to. The lighter the grits the less time you will spend on it. Every time you step to a deeper grit doubles your time you'll spend on the part you are working on. This specific trailer we started with a rotary 220 grit and worked up from there. We had to go that deep to get the grain out of the aluminum. If you haven't used a rotary before I do not recommend trying it for the first time on a trailer rail. Trailer rails are never something I recommend for beginners to try. They are an advanced polishing thing to do. Takes lots of buffer control and consistent pressure mixed with great technique.
But if you are looking to do everything we have done here in this video then look no further than goshineon.com/shop. Everything you see us use in this video is available there.
If you are looking for grinders or cords and stuff we use in the shop that aren’t available on goshineon.com all of these products used in this video are available at www.amazon.com/shop/metalpoli... or by the individual links.

Evan I love the way you did the trailer I have a question I have a 1985 pontoon boat and I've got small pits in the Finish how far can I send that down without making the whole week
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. Without seeing and knowing the thickness of the metal or the current depths of the pits I have no idea. I say shiny pits are often better than holes in the tanks. Try sanding 400 grit on a spot. See if the pits come out. If they don't then drop down to 320 grit. If it doesn't come out then go down to 220 grit. If it doesn't come out at 220 then start at 220 and work up to 600 step by step. Anything below 220 with an inexperienced user can wreck things or make irreparable mistakes. 220 is a same space and hard to wreck beyond repair. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching.

In previous video you showed on a training tank a side by side vertical vs the horizontal as the last pass. The horizontal proving the eye the most clarity. In this video the DA work was to finish vertical. I’m doing pontoon s so should I be finishing my sanding, cut and color all finishing on the horizontal or the vertical?
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 2 жыл бұрын
This is where the art of metal polishing comes into play. On pontoons I finish vertical but once in a while I have to finish horizontal as the metal want to bend that way. Sometimes you have to change it up.

There really isn't a limit to how many times you can cut. I say if you cut any more than 7 times you should have just sanded it. 7 times of cutting takes just as long as one time of sanding and cutting. Hope this helps

Depends how rough it is and how much sanding I have to do. Can range anywhere from $1,500-6,000. Anything above $6k isn't worth trying to save. It usually gets too thin and risks the integrity of the trailer.

I have been driving truck for 20 years and have always kept my truck as clean as possible that use to mean a lot of hand polishing. This year I have started buying grinders, buffs and all kinds of polishing stuff for my drills and grinder/ polishers. Your videos help me learn so much. But I am getting a lot different look than you especially in cutting. I am leaving a black cloud. That isn't easy to get off. On a Reeder tank I actually had to hand polish it after cutting. Then tried to color and it turned cloudy but a white cloud. Any ideas what I am doing wrong.. using all zypher products. Sanded before from 220 to 1000 grit all with da

I was hoping to see a pontoon boat being polished too. Would a new boat require the sanding steps that you did on the trailer rails? It seems like the rolled sheet metal of a pontoon would have a smoother surface than the mill scale on the large thick trailer rails, so perhaps you don't need to sand? It would be great to see you guys polish a boat too. Thanks,
@williamneff1535
@williamneff1535 4 жыл бұрын
Depends how new. I've done em with under 20 hours and can polish on em no problem. U can polish on 10 year old aluminum and get a great shine. Problem with old aluminum is the pores and pits it will have will be visible just shinier lol. Sanding levels it out and makes everything clean
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend sanding all pontoons regardless of new or old. The mill finish on them from the factory is a pain to polish just right without sanding. Even though they look smooth sometimes they will still polish better if sanded. You don't necessarily need to always go this deep when sanding but I recommend only going as deep as you need to to get through the pits or water marks then work up to 600 and polish. I hope this helps. I doubt we will have any videos on this as we don't do many any more. Most people don't like my pricing as they are a huge pain and a time waster in my shop.

Hey, I tried to order some supplies from you a few weeks or longer ago online. But it kept kicking me over to PayPal for the payment and I'd rather just pay direct to you with my debit card. Should I just call your shop number to do that? I've had trouble dealing with PayPal in the past so I swore them off. Although since I tried to run my card on your online system and I kept declining to pay when PayPal would pop up........ My bank locked me out of my card thinking it was stolen 😂. PayPal is still messing with me one way or another . Haha.

Omg what a long tedious job. If I was making big bucks like the owner of a polishing company sure but it must be hard keeping employees motivated to do this type of work everyday, I hope they are well paid because it sure looks hard on their health and body

Our employees are paid well. It also helps that I am right along side of them working just as hard. Seeing the before and after is a great motivating factor. Thanks for watching.
