Not all varieties produce seeds? I tried with some and the pods fell off within 2 days of the flowers withering. The hybrid ones, the pods seem to hang around.

You are covering the flower with the flower petals after pollination and the stigmas get covered completely but when I cover my hand pollinated hibiscus with the petals, the filament can't be covered completely with the petals because the petals are too short and the filament tube is exposed outside. Is it alright? Thanks

Same here. Native variety , after pollination next day flower fell. After that 1 day later the Pods fell. I have kept the pods in a dry place to see if they produce seeds. Hybrid variety has larger flowers and after the flower falls the pod remains. So try with the larger hybrid variety.
