PS: I love the #timestamps. Many creators don't understand the importance of timestamps for navigation, or do but don't take the time to add them. I can always tell that somebody involved in the video publication or production understands strategy and hierarchical design when I see timestamps (if not the host themselves)

Thank you for noticing. It may take extra time on my part but I believe overall it is beneficial to the viewer. I feel like KZbin rewarded people who put timestamps by adding the chapters feature. As content gets longer and longer on KZbin (and KZbin sells movies, tv shows) it makes sense that chapters were added.

More designers are offering strategy because of channels like this and The Futur opening the eyes of creatives so they learn more business skills.

Good observation. That is true The Futur has played a role. In the past, I always offered a type of strategy to my clients but it was never a standalone service. Channels like The Futur helped me see that this is a skill that is valuable on its own. Another reason I believe there's a rise in strategist that I mentioned in another video with Melinda Livsey is that there are some people who are designers, photographers, coders, etc because they thought it was their only option in the creative space. Nathan Allotey yeah. Strategy goes well beyond marketing as well. Right into the soul of why a company starts up in the first place. Good strategists can even help the business owners spot gaps in the market and opportunities they haven’t spotted before

Right on! I actually created a whole new website design for my naturopath because her branding and website is VERY clunky and it all doesn't flow well. She has WAY too many words on her website. I broke it up some and made what's important (for the client of course) stand out. It looks sooo much better and I cannot freaking wait to present it to her! :)

Saving this video because I really connected with you and your info here! The fact that people come to you for web design is right up my alley. This is what I want to do as well. I've already had some experience in design, over the past 5 years I've made social media graphics, podcast cover art (rebranded twice), 3 of my own websites, landing pages for sales pages, kdp book covers for low content books and a coloring book. So I have some experience. My problem right now is that I don't feel like I'm as good at coming up with designs as other people. I suppose this will always be a constant battle. I also make things a lot more complicated then they have to be. So I took your book recommendation "The brand gap" and started reading it. Wow! Best book ever! Can I ask what platform you use to design websites? I'm currently using wix and designing for a naturopath doctor. But I'm feeling like webflow might be where it's at. Great video and I hope to see you soon. I know your last video was about having covid so I sure hope you're alright!

Thank you for taking the time to check out the video. There's nothing wrong with getting inspiration from other places. (Inspiration not copying). Much of what people create is somewhat of a remix of things that came before. Many times I start with a single idea, look at places like lapa.ninja or onepagelove.com for inspiration and mix things together that I like to create a new design. I used to use WordPress for my websites but now I'm Webflow all the way 😉 I'm doing okay now thank you. I recovered for covid and starting new week I have new content coming out.

The Business of Expertise sounds like an interesting one. I've heard of the "The Brand Gap", but you are the first person who made the book sound interesting. I've honestly been struggling with that #imposterSyndrome you mentioned, as a self-taught graphic designer/WordPress web designer I've been worried that I'm not as good as Darrel Wilson or Chris Do or yourself, for instance. Your suggestion of positioning myself as a graphic designer and then just requiring the client to go through brand strategy session is great. On a different note: Do you have any courses on how to effectively do #AmazonAffiliate marketing, including #DOS&DON'TS and minimum thresholds before they cancel your account, etc.? I almost started selling Amazon a few years back, but the rules said something about needing make a minimum threshold of sales within I think 90 days ... I wasn't sure I could do it and I didn't want to try and then "burn" that email/bank account like happened when I joined the KZbin Partners in 2009, but didn't understand what was expected of me and they cancelled my account 3 years later simply for making no sales, and wouldn't let me re-sign back up.

The Business of Expertise is a great book (I have the audiobook as well). I believe having impostor syndrome is normal, I am also a self-taught designer that started with WordPress. I made many mistakes along the way which is how I got to where I am today. The main thing to remember is the BEST and most SKILLED designers don't get the best work. It's all about your ability to get a potential client to BELIEVE that you can deliver VALUE.
