Thank you for doing this. I don't have anyone here to help me and I followed your video and was able to get recliner to work. I knew everything was plugged in and was getting power but it was unplugging and plugging the switch back in that did the trick. I never would have known to try that. Thank you.

Last night I was unable to put the recliner in my sofa back down. I know it is going to take at least a couple of weeks (if not longer) to get a repair technician here. I also doubt they will have the replacement switch in stock, so we are probably looking at a couple of months before the chair is functional. Your video calmly walked us through detaching the rails so we could at least collapse the recliner. I also used your link to purchase a switch and hope to be able to use it until the new switch comes in. We really appreciate your video AND your expertise! Thanks for doing what you do.

You got me back in chill mode! Thank you! Hey KZbin.....pay this man! My recliner just stopped working but it was in the down position. I had zero action at the switch......a green light on the power supply....and everything was plugged in. I just assume that it is the switch and might just order one to give it a shot. But the real help way you mentioning how to release the frame from the mechanism. Once I removed the bolts my chair is on the move again. It now reclines even further and I really dont need the power option. A huge thank you to you sir!!

Great video and explanation, thanks. I've got a rising recliner, and the mechanism looks near identical to that shown in this video. It raises and returns to a seating position without any issues. But when trying to recline, the footrest will start to lift, but then stop and the motor can be heard humming/struggling while the button remains pressed. Pressing the other button, it pulls the foot rest back in fine and raises the chair without issue. It's quite random how far the foot rest lifts before it seemingly gets stuck, and applying continuous backwards pressure to the back of the chair will allow it to continue to recline. My initial thought was that something must be causing resistance to the mechanism. To the extent that the motor cannot push the footrest up. But I cannot see anything that would be causing this, and would assume that such resistance would have to be quite high. Given the motor is still able to lift a person when rising. I've tried all the usual things with the wire connections, outlet, transformer, etc... But am yet to find a fix or even a cause. Any ideas would be appreciated 👍
@the323vlog4

my thought is that it is the motor. A lot of the times there is a thread rotating in there and it may be jammed. That’s my guess, but hard to diagnose without seeing it
@swordofomens5202

@@the323vlog4 thanks for the reply/suggestion. Being a total novice, I just assumed the motor must be fine because it's able to raise and lower the chair no problem. But has the aforementioned issue only when engaging the mechanism that lifts the footrest. It certainly can't hurt to strip it down and have a look. And a new motor is definitely cheaper than a new chair. Thanks again for trying to help out 👍

Thanks for your elimination approach to identify possible defective components. My recliner simply stopped working when partly reclined. Effectively the rise button did not work, whereas the recline button was OK. The motor would continue to run to extend, but the rise button did not reverse the motor to retract and that indicated to me that the motor was actually OK, until it fully extended. Then it stopped completely. I checked out all of YT’s recliner troubleshoot and ‘fix it’ vlogs and non were able to identify my problem. What they all failed to mention was that within the actuator arm, attached to the motor housing, there are two micro switches that enable the DC current to reverse its polarity and run the motor backwards. By disassembling the actuator arm from the drive motor I was able to reveal the switches, positioned one at each end of the ‘throw’. I was able to see that the start micro switch had jammed itself in the ‘open position’ rendering the retract button inactive. When the linear actuator had reached its full extent the other micro switch is deactivated to stop over running the motor. So to fix this problem it’s first necessary to ensure that both micro switches are cleaned and free to operate properly Ie. switch on and off and then manually rewind the actuator screw back to the start position. In my case I wiped any loose debris from the micro switch buttons and cleaned the traveller, attached to the screw and could hear them click open and close and carefully re-assembled the actuator arm to the motor housing. I suggest photographing the mechanism during the strip process to ensure correct re-assembly, as it’s critical to align the traveller and wiring spacer inside the actuator housing. Also note position and length of the screws holding motor housing together. My problem was solved simply by freeing up a very small micro switch that had jammed open and saved me waiting for £120+ replacement motor and carriage costs from China. Hope my investigation helps someone else with the same symptoms. I’m now trying to source replacement micro switches from Changzhou Kaidi Electrical Company in China. They are relatively inexpensive components used to control the polarity of DC current of the motor making it extend and retract the reclining mechanism, whereas the full motor and linear actuator can be an expensive and time lengthy replacement, dependant upon on type and make.

Hi, quick question Could a manual recliner type be converted to an electrical like the one on this video? The idea just popped into my head that maybe it was just a matter of installing a motor, but not sure if that's possible. Thank you
@the323vlog4
@the323vlog4 3 жыл бұрын
Nate River it’s possible, but would probably be difficult to do. Parts that J can think of off the top of my head that would be necessary are the motor, the frame parts to mount the motor. Hikes would have to be drilled in the square tube that runs through the center. You probably have to drill holes in the frame to mount the motor to the metal base as well. You’d have to have find someone very experienced and then locate the parts as well. It would be very tricky in my opinion

I have repaired the wires and it works but it lightly touches the area with no one on the couch. (End of a sectional) if someone sits on it the frame hits this hard and will pul the wires apart. It seems as if the chair is sagging too low. Any ideas on how to adjust it up away from the motor?

I have had success adding a few washers between the mechanism and the metal frame that attaches to. It should be several bolts attaching the mechanism to the metal frame and I usually add some washers in between the two to raise the mechanism up just slightly. If the mechanism is bending in word catching on itself, sometimes I use a 2 pound hammer to straighten it out

@the323vlog4
@the323vlog4 4 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say without seeing it, but I would try a few things. One, if there’s an individual motor that controls that function, it has more than likely gone bad or has a loose wire connection. I’d always recommend tracing all wires and get a good idea of how everything is controlled and it will help you diagnose it. For instance, I see a lot of power recliners where the power goes into the chair and plugs into a power transformer box and then from there another wire goes to power the main lift arm motor, and from that one motor, it splits into three or so wires that can control the headrest, the power switch, etc. if you send images of the chair and motors to my email at the323concept@yahoo.com I can try to help you further.

And the new one that I’m about to get, the specs are; Max.load:800N, Stroke:340mm, Input:DC 28V 2.0A. How do all these correlate, and would it be a good fit for it?

I have never successfully found a way to test the motor for individual function I suppose if you are handy with electrical, you could uncover the wires and push the headrest button on the switch and test if the power is going to the motor with a multimeter. A cheaper and easier option in my opinion is to order a new two button power switch and test it out to see if that resolves the issue. If that does not solve the issue, then it sounds like you have a motor issue. It’s probably goes without saying, but I will definitely make sure the wire did not come loose that runs into the headrest motor

My power recliner is only 1-1/2 yrs old. When I use the hand control it was sometimes not responding, wait a bit then it did work. But now it only lifts the footrest up and down; if I try to recline the back it stops working. We’ve put the chair on its side, unplugged then replugged the hand controller to get the chair closed and we can see the motor seems to stop at the same location every time, 3/4 of the way back on the rail. We checked power supply, wires and connectors all look good. What should I replace hand controller or motor.

I typically have a spare hand Controller that o always try first , because it’s usually the issue 90% of the time, but it is definitely possible for the motor to have issues as well. I would definitely start with the hand control though. If you have another power recliner in the home, you could potentially borrow the hand control to help diagnose the issue.

Kegga Grenier I’m familiar with a couple of sounds that fit that description. First, the motor could be faulty and be making the sound, which could possibly be remedied by cleaning it or replacing it if necessary. Second, if it feels like it’s catching or jolting, it could be a be t mechanism and the frame could be catching on itself. If you’re able To send me a video of the noise I could maybe help further. The power transformers are usually interchangeable, but for the price I would recommend getting one decorated for each, making sure it supplies enough power to handle the motor for that specific unit. The motors typically say on them how much power they draw. From there, just look at the specs on the transformers and make sure it meets those requirements.

I have seen where the control on the good side is actually the issue. I would possibly try that. Plug the new one you received into the side that is working and see if it yields any results. Otherwise, I’d say it’s more than likely a motor issue or a wiring issue between the two sides

Theoretically it’s possible but it’s a lot of work and requires some professional tools. It would require drilling out the drive tube to accept motor brackets. An angle iron usually goes around the drive tube for stability. The motor brackets and motor. One of these days I’ll do a video on one to show how extensive the process is.

Do you have an additional box from Another unit that you could plug into the one that is gong out to see if it still happens ? It could mean there’s a short in the airing somewhere else. I would check all wiring to make sure it’s not damaged and if you have a spare box, try swapping it to see if it still goes out.

I have a ManWah power recliner that was purchased from Furniture Row about ten years ago. The chair is still in excellent condition, but the recliner quit working about a week ago. I contacted the store, and they recommended ordering a switch via Amazon and I did that. With the new switch, the chair still doesn't work. I have a green light on the power supply, so I am assuming the next step is motor assembly. I called Furniture Row again and they said they can get a motor assembly from the factory, but again, Amazon or Ebay will be much quicker. I have found the OKIN Refined part number JLDQ-11 on the motor assembly and its about $100. Should ordering to that part number get me a motor, with drive assembly, that fits? Still nervous.

Great Video! It really helped me understand how all the parts work. I have a quick question I'm hoping you will be able to answer. I have an electric powered love seat and one side stopped working. I was able to identify that the connection between the motor and the transformer is where I'm having an issue. The transformer green light is on but when connect the motor to the transformer there is a smal spark and the transformer goes out immediately. I switched the other transformer from the other side that I know is working and the same thing happpens a small spark and it goes out. I checked the wiring from the from the motor to the connector and it all looks good. I'm thinking I need to replace the motor but was hoping you may have some feed back as to what the problem may be if it's not the motor. Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

I think you’re on the right track. My assumption would be the motor as well as long as all the wiring is in good shape. There is a short somewhere. Could be the motor itself . Recliner quit working out of the blue. I have a green light on my power source after I unplug the motor from it. As soon as it is plugged back in the green light goes out. What is that all about? It's an emomo motor. Any Ideas? Thanks

I was actually working on a power recliner today that had the same issue. In my case, the switch was the issue. In my scenario, there were three wires coming out of the motor that split to the headrest, the switch and power. I knew it was the switch, because when I unplugged the switch from the motor, the greenlight stayed illuminated. You might try that and see if you have any luck.
