I have been a tarot reader for 19 years, 14 professionally and I love thos comment. I have a student who wants to read professionally after 6 months. I say go for it! But do you even know your cards yet? Cards are used as a guide for the reader to deliver the message.

@@billcipher2893 Hi I have the same issue. What I did was to start asking questions about local events and situations that were easy to get feedback about later on. For example , there was a community alert by the local police about a local teenager girl that was missing: I asked if she was going to be found alive within a week … , the about how the local event was going to turn out , how my client / patient was going to be … like this time when the cards told me about this person that was over thinking the end of a relationship with a man in a very strong way. It turned out that she was divorced for many years but she did not move on with her life and all she could talk about was this divorce… Get the books from Dusty White and also contact John he has an amazing course program to get confidence reading

Thank you John for all your time and sharing. To me, Tarot has everything to do with psychology. You meditate on the questions and that in itself is already a helpful process. It makes you think. It also shows you that there might be questions you don`t want to be answered, why would that be? It makes you wonder and analyze. It addresses your inner self, your worries and helps you find out your strengths. Sometimes we`re not aware of our attributes, we`re full of self doubt and those "sweet little tarot lies" help us get back on track of positive thinking.

If the card is reversed before I turn it, then I'm causing an upright. I am totally consistent with turning from top to bottom, so I assume that the Tarot knows I'm going to do this and arranges cards the correct way so they tell the true story after I have turned them. I was taught this method, and I had the best teacher. Is it the only correct way? I think so, but you people can still get the right answer using a different method.

John Ballantrae I hope your view changed since this video because it is not the only right way.. and it's wrong that you teach that..consistency in one's method is the right way but you can flip the cards in any direction you wish, as long as it's always the same direction..and also when you were shuffling in the video and said you were only doing a half shuffle because of demonstration purposes but really the right way is to do it 3 times..again that's wrong..this is the kind of teaching that confuses people..the right way of shuffling is whatever feels right for you, it doesn't matter if it's 3 or 6 times or you do it with your left or right hand..I like your teachings and your knowledge and I was going through your old videos, but when I saw this I wasn't expecting it from you.. I didn't think you had that view on this subject

@Divuar It depends what you mean by "changes its meaning".Cards have general meanings - like Death can show, in part, a new beginning. This new start may be easy or difficult, or the questioner may be fearful or confident in facing the experience. I think in this way the meaning may change, but the basic nature of the card stays the same - so Death is Death and not Strength or The Empress, both of which have their own particular stroies to tell.

I also shuffled along with you while asking myself the same question about what is the tarot, the very first card I looked at was The Priestess just as you announced thats what you believe represents the tarot.. I have faith in the tarot now more than ever.

I just did this and took out the 2 of swords, the star and the high priestess as my own choices as well as the hermit. I shuffled 3 times, felt there was something wrong, shuffled again, cut and got my 3 cards in order. My precise question was ‘what is the tarot for me?’ And I laid them out as past, present as future, as I have been considering reading professionally, the high priestess as the future is auspicious- as well as choosing the exact 3 cards I had in mind! I feel that I didn’t come across your video by chance... thank you

I can agree with you, but prefer to have the question in mind first rather than a supposed meaning; then figure out what sense that card makes for that particular question (in that position, as well, if it applies). Devil = temptation, yes, but temptation may be irrelevant for an answer. Someone insisted that his vision of a brown purse was important for me; there is no brown purse, but he wouldn't let it go. This and hundreds of examples = forget about "intuition" esp. in the beginning.

No, I totally see where you are coming from, and I didn't mean to suggest that the cards are the cards, regardless of the question. That was something that I rather thought you were implying earlier...saying, that strength will always be strength, and not the Empress...for example. I totally agree that the question is the starting point, and then you have to make sense of it. I feel that this is true of intuition as well. You interpret what meaning it holds (if any) "for the question".

It's difficult to convey in 500 characters but I guess what I'm saying is, there's usually a "key meaning" or energy associated with each card, no? E.g. Rapid action/Communication-8 wands, Emotional loss-5 cups, Partnership-2 cups, Hope-The Star, Temptation-The Devil, & so on; the kind of stuff that you see in tarot books all the time. On intuition, surely avoiding your intuition is like cutting off one of your senses though? Kinda like, "If it's not in the card, then I ignore it"

Yeah for sure! 8/wands is news coming in quick, wands are fire so definitely some passion/creativity. 5/cups betrayal but also self pity. 2/cups could mean friendship or new relations. Star, you're on the right path. Devil, only let your dark side in if you're able to bring yourself back to the light, you might not like what you're about to see. Intuition is a huge part of tarot and most tarot readers, myself included, use the cards as a guide to get the message across. There are no set 'meanings' for each card ...

The points you make deserve more than 500 character answers, but let me say this: I'm not sure who you mean when you say "standard card meanings". I encourage looking for the SENSE a card makes, rather than meanings, so this takes you in a different direction. Could be mistrust - but it could be the reader's own personal demon or hang-up or blind spot. Intuition? It's best avoided - unless it springs from some definite trigger in the picture..

Hi John, interesting video (still to watch the other parts yet), and I got some fascinating results as to what the Tarot is "to me". (I guess that was kind of the point, as surely tarot is very personal. I'm curious though, you have a particular way of shuffling with you say is the "correct" way, and I note that you deliberately cause card reverses. Are you saying that it's the ONLY "correct" way to shuffle?

How about certain elements in cards standing out though, which give you information and messages that might contradict the standard card meaning? Examples (off the top of my head) could be the trumpet in "Judgement" which makes you think of communication, or the boy looking over his shoulder in the 5 of swords, which could make you feel that there's mistrust and an expectation of backstabbing? That's different from the standard meanings wouldn't you say? Where does intuition figure in reading?

I often times find myself in exasperating circumstances regarding a difficult relationship, and I try to get information from the Tarot. However, there have been others who say that it is nearly impossible to get an objective reading without having one's ego affect the outcome. What is your thinking on that? Thanks.
