How to pracice Tarot readings when you're on your own. Part 2 of 2.

2023...this was an eye-opener! that Hermit at the end gave me pause - more like a jolt. Just a few hours ago, I was listening to a podcast by well known and respected readers of many decades. They were talking about new laws and restrictions that are being passed restricting the public reading of Tarot cards, i.e., readers who operate commercially. It was about how readers have to apply for a license, and those license requirements are more restrictive than for a sexual offender. For example, in one USA city, the potential reader has to notify every single household and business within a very large radius of the proposed location for Tarot readings - and that literally anyone in that radius can object, potentially scuttling any chance of getting a license. So in short, what I'm seeing here with the Hermit , for the future of the Tarot, is that it may once again revert to a practice that is done by the wise in private and isolation. Surely querants will still seek them out for advice, and I won't pretend to know what the consequences would be for an unlicensed Tarot reader (I'm thinking burning at the stake won't be making a return) but since the Hermit is facing left perhaps it also means look to the past - the Tarot and Tarot readers may have much to learn from how it was demonised in the past, and practitioners victimised. Perhaps it is saying "remember" - don;t assume we live in an enlightened age. Sorry that's not particularly positive, but the "coincidence of listening to that podcast and then watching this video struck me as not a coincidence at all.

You and I read alike - I am soooo happy to see this - I thought I was a horrid reader - no matter what people say! I was reading one night at a bar for a friend (Owner) and the guy's cards were the Queen of Swords and the Queen of Cups - I told him that he was being pulled between two strong women - HE WAS CHEATING ON HIS WIFE - and he ran out of the bar - scared to death. I was sitting there - amazed. LOL

We're using it for self analysis, and Jungian Shadow Working, and analyzing our own and (willing) others strengths and weaknesses and how our outlooks and attitudes affect the way we perceive the world. Hermit is my favorite card. It can also mean for one to have solitude while finding out for themselves what they want to know in an intuitive, wise manner, studying this wonderful thing called the tarot. I love this video. It help me think of how I want to ask questions more balanced, analytical, caring manner anytime I do future readings.

Thank you, great videos. This reading makes all the sense in the world! Judgment, as not being of the conscious mind, but trusting in a higher judgement that comes from the true nature of our being. And then the Hermit, in that deck resembles Diogenes of Synope who was a hermit that always carried a lamp with him, to "see the heart of men" as he was looking for an honest man...

Just tried this exercise. My result (left to right): K of Wands, K of Cups, Ace of Swords. The tarot was a way for mysterious inspiration, it's becoming a way for emotional understanding, and it will become a way for understanding our thoughts. Nice practice method.

You said none of your original 3 cards came up but if you look at the numerology of Judgement, being XX or 20, 2+0 = 2, and 2 is the High Priestess. Do you refer to numerology in your readings? Hi John love your work, Ive been looking for links like this on learning to group the cards together and be able to combine them into one reading. it seemed to start bad get good and then very negative, I thought the Hermet was a negative card? but you seem to bring out a positive outcome. Brilliant.

Some interpret the Hermit to mean just "isolation," but it's actually positive isolation. Think of it as perhaps a withdraw into study, meditation, or private contemplation. A.E. Waite does a terrible job of defining this card in his Key, but he does include the suggestion that the Hermit essentially says, "Where I am, you also may be." Meaning, with the right preparation and experience, you also may gain the light of knowledge that you seek. This will lead to a spiritual independence and embrace of the solitary. I'm no expert, but based on my studies, I think it is a positive card.
