So if you guys don't want to spend $50-60 on a Mr Mute, you can tape over the whistle hole on the bottom of the ocarina. Keep in mind it doesn't work as well as mr mute but it's free and quite.

@@AndyCormierYT Thanks Andy, Oh by the way I bought the Night By Noble thanks to you and it's great! But I do have a problem, I cannot speak Japonese or Korean and on the back of the box there comes the notes you know. I was able to figure out wich ones are the first 3 lines wich are from A to F but the last line I just dont know wich notes are they, I google it but I cannot find them. Do you know wich notes are those or where can I find them? Also my browser doesnt wants to translate the website to another language so It is kind of usless to go there :(

IF YOU PUT A layer of Blue Tack over the lip of the output of the Ocarina, You can Reduce the high pitch sqweak sound and act as a "Muting" Trick.. With the advantage that You can Remove The Tack later, leaving no residue..!!🌹🌺😘🧙👍 ALMOST FREE ALSO..!!

Thank god for this video!! I got the mr.mute package back when it was in japanese only and never figured out how to properly do it so I was constantly sacrificing sounding nice for keeping my family from getting annoyed from my playing lol! This helps so much!!

If only!! I'm sure someone will find a method that works, but I see it being a much bigger challenge than muting just one chamber. The Coda EDC is a double and comes with mutes for each chamber, though it's a very different playing experience than a typical double

Thanks for introducing this gadget, definitely something I will think about getting in the future. At the moment I think I would still have trouble adjusting it correctly for natural breath pressure. Still, it would be nice to be able to practice quieter sometimes.

Can it work for soprano ocarinas? No one has told me that my soprano playing is annoying, but it is a loud little instrument and I do get self-conscious. Plus, it would be nice to have the option to practice late without bothering anyone.

Yes-just double-checked testing on both my SG and SC! However, if the mouthpiece of your soprano is slim, it might not fit as securely as on an AC. That said, it'll just mean there's some air leakage, so you could adjust Mr. Mute to let more air in (IE. blue mouthpiece, smaller escape hole, and/or larger insert) to compensate. Also, the flexible adapter is weirdly helpful for preventing air leakage on SC in my test. In any case, yes, it works with Sopranos, both SC and SG. If can fit on the mouthpiece, I'm almost certain it'd work on basses too

Andy, I got my Night by Noble ocarina for about 55 bucks (Europe; taxes apply) inspired by your video, and I have no regrets, but this? This is stupid. I get pretty much the same effect with a little square of duct tape covering about half of the airhole. A bit messy, but fifty bucks can get you a lot of duct tape.

There certainly are other methods of muting an ocarina, but I stand by Mr Mute! I’ve seen it go on sale for less than $50, and I agree $50 is a *bit* much for it, but using something like duct tape has a high chance of damaging the ocarina, at least if it’s ceramic and has a glaze. On top of that Mr. Mute is all about precision customization so you can use your exact natural breath pressure, which would definitely be difficult with tape alone. I appreciate the comment though! Mr. Mute definitely isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s the best option available for muting single chamber ocarinas

Where exactly does the duct tape go on the airhole? Which side? I also got night by noble and I want to play it, but my family hates how loud it is. I've been trying to find a way to make it quieter while also not killing the sound, and yeah I don't want to spend £55 when my ocarina was £32

@@Strawberryfiend I cover part of the hole where the air goes out, underside. But Andy is right, it's not the same thing. I just get airy whispered sounds, not proper undertones, and the tuning may be off. You get to practice your fingering with some sound feedback, but you cannot practice the quality of your sound production.
