I can't wait to get gardening but here in Maine, I'm still covered in snow. I really can't wait to plant the Zinnia seeds you sent me, I was so excited to have won them! Thank you so much for the gifting of spring♥

Hello Steph. Thanks for sharing this video. Great tips while I am starting some Anemones for the first time here in Iowa. Crazy weather so need to find cooler temps.😅

I'm starting a lot of new flowers and foliage from seed this year, and spent a lot on tulips and daffs, so I backed away from anemonies and ranunculus... on the plan for future years, though. This was quite informative!

Wonderful - I'm glad it was helpful! I get it - things are pricier this year than ever before too.

I do think that it is helpful to presoak ranunculus and anemones in organza bags with a plant tag. I changed the water frequently in my laundry tub in a container and let the water run from time to time. I had sprouts on many of the ranunculus in about 4 to 5 days in my dark and cooler basement, which was faster than prior years. My anemones also sprouted very quickly this year. I pot them up into 36 deep or 50 cell flats in high-quality potting soil and put them under lights in the basement. Last spring was so hot quickly, so this year, to get more blooms, I started on January 30 and presprouted some every day for a week. It definitely is a balancing act getting the right soil moisture for presprouting depending on what temperature they will be presprouting in. Last year, I know we discussed the amount of time needed for soaking Butterfly and Romance ranunculus. I ordered from Fleur Farm in Vermont and she added a sticky note for Butterfly ranunculus saying to soak for 24 hours in 75° water and Romance ranunculus should be soaked for 12 hours in 75° water. I love that Fleur Farm in Vermont sends their corms in pretty organza bags that can be used for soaking. I am most excited this year to grow Amadine Coral ranunculus and Anemone Rarity. I am hopeful to plant outside in the middle of March and cover. I have read that anemones are hardy to 20°. They are much hardier than ranunculus. There is an area of anemones that I did not dig out, which overwintered and have lots of green, so I covered with some cedar pieces, so they survive our cold temperatures without snow. Take care!

I think you’re right, Sue! I like the bathtub idea with organza bags. I’m going to try to remember that for next year. I did not know that about the butterfly and romance ranunculus! I remember the butterflys last year took much longer for me, so maybe that’s why! Yes, the anemones are more hardy than ranunculus…I’ve read that as well. I think that’s why I have more green in my anemone beds that came back - because they are hardier. I’m thinking along the same timelines as you for getting them in the garden - around a month earlier than last year which was April 8th. I think I’ll get more blooms. And these babies will still be nestled nicely in my belly - I hope. It helps to have the hoops ready this year. Sending my husband out tonight to clip the frost cloth back up…It’s freezing here suddenly again! Cheers and good luck!

Great video. I use warm water to help with the wetting of potting medium. Have you tried growing ranunculus from seed? I am growing some of my ranunculus from last year in containers. Stay well and remain positive. Thank you for sharing.

Hi! How are you feeling? You must be in your mid-2nd trimester? June right? What a great birthday month! I always wanted a spring baby, mine are born in August and November, not that I care when they were born right? Lol. They are healthy and beautiful and that is the biggest blessing. Anywayssss… I really hope you’re feeling well and exited for those beautiful babies! It’s Ranunculus/ Anemone time!! I started mine a week and a half ago, they’ve already pre sprouted like crazy some how. I hadn’t tried Ranunculus before but they all have green sprouts pushing up already! They liked my basement cement floor I guess! Lol. Anemones I have done, but this year I’ve gone much bigger w them. Thanks for taking the time to do a vid for us, you rock! I’ll cut this novel off now. Lol. Cheers hun

Hi Alli! I’m feeling bigger…and tired 😂 But babies are looking good 👍 22 weeks on Monday! You must be a ranunculus wizard! I did NOT do that well my first time…kuddos to you! You’ll love them when they bloom! I love novels…the more the merrier! 😀 Good luck this season and keep me updated! Cheers!

@@TinysGarden you look great! 22 weeks with twins?? You are looking fantastic. But I can understand why you’re feeling tired. With twins, things move a lot faster, twice the “joy” in one belly! Lol. I bet you’re getting beat up from the inside already! With both my kids, I felt them moving so early the doctors didn’t think it was possible but I was able to tell the ultrasound technician exactly where and when I was getting booted! 😆. With my first I felt him move at 14 weeks , and at 16 weeks he was so strong he booted my husband in the face when he went to talk to my belly! After that, my husband could feel him move regularly! My daughter was worse for the kicking! Oh my gosh! She was a ninja kick boxer! We would watch my tummy contort in the weirdest ways and think “that just looks wrong”! 😝. I can’t even imagine carrying twins, you are a rock star girl! It’s such a beautiful blessing for you however, you deserve this happiness. It won’t replace the loss you had before but it will lift some of the weight. I lost a baby at 22 weeks in 2009, it was devastating, I still think of her. I understand that pain as a mother. But when Haley came onto the scene unexpectedly, she blew us all away with how much I loved her even though I hadn’t planned on having her (birth control fail. Lol) she was actually exactly what I needed to get my head back into living, not just drifting… 4 months before I got pregnant w haley, my sister lost her battle w Cancer. Needless to say, I was a bit lost for a while but when I found out haley was there, it got my head back in to living. Sorry, i didn’t mean to over share, but it’s good for women to be able to talk about similar experiences and draw strength from each other. Haley (and my son Noah) brought joy back into my life after I felt hollow and lost. Having my little girl gave me purpose and focus, and so much love. I am sure you’re babies are going to make your family so full and bring love and happiness to you. You said you liked novels…..🤣 Anyways… I’m exited to see what my Ranunculus do this season! I don’t have a huge amount, I wanted to try my hand at a smaller amount first and see how I do w them. So far so good! I’ve been told I have 10 magic green thumbs by a few people.. idk, maybe I am all thumbs! Take care Steph!

@@alliward6040 Omg, thank you for sharing! I’m so sorry for your loss at 22 weeks and the passing of your sister…that is A LOT. I’m happy your daughter came around for you unexpectedly. Thank you for sharing your story. I agree it’s so important for women to know they aren’t alone even though it still seems to be such a taboo topic. Thank you ❤️ You’re going to rock the ranunculus! Absolutely no doubt. Cheers! 😀

Hi Steph!! So I put my corms to presprout on 2/12. However, nothing peeking out in the dirt. 😢 Did you pull out your corm to check for rooting or that tiny growth? I'm running right beside you time wise, so hoping there is still a possibility they will presprout. Basement, 55 degree'ish, dark corner.
@TinysGarden
@TinysGarden 10 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ve check every 3 or 4 days to see if they’ve starting pre-sprouting and today is the first day I noticed anything, so you’re okay! Check that the soil isn’t completely dry - if so, be sure to give them a drink with a sprayer. 55 degrees should be perfect and the basement floor is a good place. Give them a look and see what you think!

Thanks for the video. I plan to grow my ranunculus in crates. Is there any reason I can’t just sprout and grow in the same container? Thanks!
@TinysGarden
@TinysGarden 10 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don’t know for sure…I’ve not seen them grown in crates before! I know you can do that with tulips, but I think their root structure is smaller. Maybe spacing would be an issue? But honestly, I think you could try it and it’d inform you on future years if it works well or not…keep me updated! I’m curious how it will turn out for you. Good luck!

One ranunculus per 8 inch pot works for me. Big container the more you can put in.

Love your videos. Thank you for doing them. I am starting my ridiculous today. I pre-soaked them and have them in dirt so I don't have to put them under a grow light just a cooler spot?

@@ErinTheriault-b8w It’s tough to say…I would actually check the corms themselves to see if they are shriveled and dried up or if you’re noticing any signs of pre-sprouting!
