Hey Mike, greatly appreciate your videos. You rock! Have a question: what manufacturer is the larger/industrial looking vacuum? Is that necessary if I did a DYI in my garage or could I get away with using just that Dewalt vacuum?
@AggrocultureSnDАй бұрын
So after you grind you simply just vacuum before applying your poly? I see so many power wash after but I feel that would add in moisture and now they need to either wait many days to let it evaporate or apply a moisture barrier yes?

Excellent video, I've been debating on having my 20x20 garage floor done. I'm just concerned about durability, slipperiness, and any maintenance. I'm very particular about how my stuff looks. I reside in MI, so lots of snow, salt, etc.

We're in Maine, I feel these are the best coatings for all the concerns you mention. We do a lot of them and have for 20 years.

a nice set up is Dynamic Diamond DDG 1220 “BEAST” Concrete Floor Grinder or WerkMaster Concrete Floor Grinder. both grinders can do Concrete Surface Preparation/Profile. Both grinders you can stand up for edges and main floor. For power, Generator, propane or tap into electric box. Your multi-Tool works great for corners.

Hi Mike - for a new slab that is going to get an epoxy coating right away, can it be finished in such a way where you don't have to do any grinding?
@MikeDayConcrete10 ай бұрын
I don't recommend finishing the concrete "not as smooth" so you don't have to grind. Grindng is your best option, or shot blasting. For the long run.

Here's a tip for you. I used to use regular ear muffs, but recently I bought a soundcore noise canceling ear muffs for only about $70. It cancels the noise much better than regular ear muffs. Plus you can listen to music or take phone calls with bluetooth connectivity. The charge lasts 44 hours.

Turned out great! What’s your guys opinion on charging a deposit before putting down a floor like this?

you could always just buy/use a generator if you're worried about popping customers' breakers.. most come with 220v outlets also

Mike, I have a few low spots in my garage that water flows to. It’s especially a problem in the winter with a heated garage. The water flows to the garage door and the pedestrian door, freezing under and in front of the doors. Is there a product to float the low spots and the spalling? Or are they different products?

If the surface is rough and was never finish smoothed do you still need to grind in order to apply a polyspardic or epoxy coating ?
@daveyconcrete980110 ай бұрын
yes
@JDCrae10 ай бұрын
@@daveyconcrete9801 For what purpose ? Doesn't the grinding provide a rough surface ? If the surface is already rough with no finish, paint etc, what is the grinding doing ?
@daveyconcrete980110 ай бұрын
@@JDCrae It flattens and evens out the surface as well as cleaning the surface by removing the top layer. what you think you may be saving in not grinding you will pay for in extra layers of epoxy.
@MikeDayConcrete10 ай бұрын
Exposing the "pores" in the surface for adhesion is important. Cleaning the concrete is also important, both done with the diamond cup wheel. Sometimes the top layer of paste/cream is "softer" than right underneath it so we like to remove it whether rough or smooth to get to a hard dense concrete for the coating to last a long time.

Hi Mike, I have a large shop in the back of the house that I purchased. It has a large slab that I don't know if they put a moisture barrier under it when they poured it. How do I protect from moisture for my new coating? Thanks.
@bradleyhewitt99997 ай бұрын
Moisture vapor barrier epoxy
@bradleyhewitt99997 ай бұрын
I use it a lot. It makes sense to use it whenever in doubt. Works the same as any prime coat for epoxy floors and most will even take flakes. That and a coat of polyaspartic on top and you've got a pretty strong floor
