Watch along as Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, demonstrates the process for preparing a Mauser for a new bolt handle. He'll start by applying some layout dye to the original bolt handle and scribing a cutoff line. A cutoff wheel, mounted to a rotary tool, is used to remove the handle. Once the old handle has been removed, the new handle is prepared for welding. A 30-degree line is scribed onto the handle and then clamped in a vise. The root of the handle is then filed down to the line. The handle is now ready to be placed in a fixture for welding.

Its an old video and you just re-upload it,, but really we miss your video. Specially I was always watching your video since more than 4 years and dream to work as your assistant or to be trained by you. I already repeat each video and make money from that during my university study and now working on supplying tactical equipments but I still watching your videos and always waiting for new from your side.

I'm never an advocate for modifying a historic rifle but to each their own I suppose. I'd just prefer to see these old guns kept in as close to original condition as possible but I suppose if someone wants something like this done its best to do it right.

TwentythreePER I completely agree with you. Nothing pains me more as a history major then to see classic military rifles "sportized." In my view it is a major sin. We have far too many modern hunting and plinking rifles on the market to reach this goal, so ruin a vintage gun? I will never agree to it.

Thanks for the permission there, Twentythree! Now I can continue building Mauser sporters. Do your sentiments apply to the thousands of rifles on the market with split stocks, crud bores, missing parts, etc.? How about the ones with arsenal- redone Mauser barrels in .308? I'm currently building my second Mauser sporter with ALL of the foregoing "faults". I have a 7mm and an 8mm Mauser barrel with excellent bores I can change out as I wish. My other Mauser had a split stock, several parts missing, and a redone Mauser .308 barrel. It's gonna get a custom stock and good sights. This is called revitalizing, and it's a good thing. Give me a break.

yea seriously just buy a Ruger predator or some other cheap rifle and do your mods there where it would be a pain in the a$$ for the others to see

@@geraldmahle9833 obviously he was referring to collectible rifles. Of course damaged rifles are better off being reborn but to take a perfectly functional, decent condition, collectible Mauser and butcher it is a disgrace in my opinion and (not my opinion but reality) is destroying an irreplaceable piece of history one at a time.

Cool, but could have at least shown the finished product... And more of the steps it took to get there. Definitely wouldn't have used a Dremel tool either... Not for the main cut anyways. Thanks Uncle Larry.

Why not just cut the bolt handle at half the angle and rotate it 180 degrees? that would give you the correct angle with the same bolt handle and no major stock removal.
