I admire how you keep your hands looking so good considering how often you handle paraffin wax. My hands get terribly dry; I have to use plenty of extra moisturizer whenever I do so. I like your method, but I can't easily obtain stearic acid where I live. I don't order from Amazon (or other online stores) for reasons I won't bore you with - so I soak my cotton wicks in a borax/salt/water solution to prepare them. They have to soak at least overnight in this solution and then be hung out to dry, and only then can they be soaked in wax. Takes longer (at least a couple of days per batch) but they work very well too.
