A little late but hopefully someone read this eventually. I was called in for one of these in late september of 2021 my freshman year of college. As it was my first offense and it was relatively something minor I got off with just a warning. I cannot express how important it is to be honest. More often than not it is your teacher that reported the incident.

This is exactly my situation I have an essay which has a few mistakes where I didn’t paraphrase sentences, I assume the professor had seen that the system that reads for plagiarism had a percentage so he reported it to the dean. I really hope being honest and admitting to my few very minor mistakes works out.

@@yachanapatel6112 I was not given any penalty by the dean or the admissions but my professor made me redo the entire essay and I believe he took some points off, the meeting I had with the dean and board was not very intimidating just go in knowing the mistakes you made and admit to anything you did and tell them how it was a simple mistake and that it won’t happen again

@@yachanapatel6112 It's been a few months but I'll try to recall. There was someone that worked for the office there. Someone higher up, she was the only one. She simply asked me if I did cheat, I replied with yes and she let me off with a warning. After of course she told me if it happened again I'd likely see suspension or even expulsion. I was in and out in 2 minutes if I remember correctly.

Message from Australia here. In a WA uni as a mature age student. After lodging a few complaints that were legitimate regarding bullying from a lecturer and another lecturer not adhering to a post surgery eqal opportunity health plan, a couple of academics ganged up and accused me of false allegations that were extremely serious resulting in a reccomendarions of a 12 month suspension from uni. I have some witnesses for the investigation team to contact and this is where the conspiracy and corruption became apparent at the University amongst their staff. The investigation team repeatedly lied saying they had contacted my witnesses who chose not to provide witness statements. I managed to get hold of the witnesses who both told me Noone from the uni had contacted them and that's when I realised I was being framed by the academics who wanted to retaliate against the complaints I have made and a corrupt investigation team who failed to follow procedural process and deliberately omitted important key witness testimony. I am now at the final stage of the appeal process to over turn the 12 month suspension and I am now seeking a quarter of a million dollars in damages, a full refund of all course fees, criminal charges against academic staff who have knowingly made up false testimony. This has now been reported to the corruption commission also who investigate corruption in the public sector (universities in Australia are considered public sector since the govt funds a lot of the university fees for Australian students)-

That appeal process is truly critical to a fair and just system of government. Why, I recently picked up Jade War, sequel to Fonda Lee's Jade City, and in it, a young man robbed an establishment belonging to a family which payed tribute to the No Peak Clan of Janloon. He also inadvertently shot the uncle of a clan warrior, which carries an automatic death sentence. The offender was very fortunate to have been apprehended by police, but this only afforded him a temporary stay of execution. With the help of an advocate (his mother), however, and by utilizing the appeal process (seeking out the wife of the Clan leader and begging for mercy), the offender was able to present several mitigating arguments. For example: his all-consuming addiction to a chemical substance, and the fact that the money was returned and the injured relative made a full recovery. As a result, he was able to reduce his sentence from a terrifying and likely excruciating death to a formal apology, to be presented to the offended family along with his left ear after he was released from prison. I have no idea why KZbin tossed this video in my recommendations, but I hope this comment was every bit as informative, engaging and random.

For my communications class we were supposed to provide an outline for a verbal speech, I submitted my script (there were no guidelines for the outline), which did not have quotations, instead used phrases such as "according too" (because it was verbal). I later received an email from my professor stating he has turned in my outline to the dean of students for academic dishonesty and I was to get an email in which I can appeal.

@@americanpicker6493 I know it's been 2 years, but I was let off with no consequences because I was able to provide my research. Anytime I do research, I make a chart of all my sources and the key take aways. I was able to argue that I wouldn't have done all that work if I was trying to pass off someone's work as mine.

I just got a letter informing that one of my assessment paper was suspected for a breach of the academic integrity policy. I'm a bit scared because I still don't know specifically which part I did wrong. They commented saying that it was "too little effort made and some of them are not even cited". I get their point saying "too little effort", I tried my best paraphrasing but I can't control the time I have. I had to finish the assessment as fast as I can so that I can have time revising for the 24hr DS&Algo Exam the day after. I ended up finishing the assessment in time and I did not sleep the next day revising until I finished the 24hr exam. But the one I am still confused about is the "not even cited" part, I thought I cited everything, I checked and yes I did cite everything. I suffered a lot for doing this paper, I'll be mad if I have to redo the assessment again or worse, retake the module again. This is my first time so hopefully I don't have to deal with the student conduct nor withdrawling from the course I am taking. I currently am in for 1 more year to finish my Degree, it would be a total BS if I were to be withdrawled now.

@@americanpicker6493 my meeting went well. I basically only got a warning but my lecturer was being unfair. I wanted to call her out for being a bitch and extremely nit picky which she said she was being nit picky. However, they failed me anyways…by 2%. I’m redoing my coursework in August. The whole experience was traumatic to me, affected my mental health terribly and really knocked down my confidence.

For my university, we have student associations that provide free services and advice for student advocacy. They are completely independent from the university and aren't affiliated with them. Such as in the case of any disciplinary meetings like academic or general misconduct, like plagiarism. But I know a classmate of mine, during my first year, got a plagiarism notice for their first ever essay assignment. I didn't hear how their hearing went but from what I heard, they got 0 for their assignment and had to attend library classes on how to correctly reference their sources.

But it definitely scared all my classmates, because they were worried that they may have unintentionally plagiarised and not realised. It was a good lesson for all of my classmates and myself because it helped us to find resources to properly cite our sources , despite it being our first semester for year 1 of our degree. But also, i also heard it was an unintentional case if plagiarism

So basically I had an assingment for my financial markets subject in my first year. My Turnitin came back at 53% but this was because it caught random numbers and words. Adding to that, apparently mine and some other girl's assingment are similar but this is pure coincidence. How do I prove that I did not plagiarise anything and our assingments matched by pure coincidence. I do not want a warning or mark reduction. How do I get out of this?

I need HELP. I had this continuous assignment which our teacher gave us little information for and told us to 'just answer the question' she also said that we shouldn't reference. On the student portal for the module there was no info for assignments. So i answered the questions with mainly quotations and copied from other sites without references. With several of my assessments theres a 93% 94% etc match. I have a meeting about this. I'm scared.

I was dismissed from the university for allegedly violating academic policy by using a third party for assignments, yet they haven't provided any concrete proof. Despite repeatedly asking for evidence to support their claim, the university insists they have irrefutable evidence but refuses to share it. They've offered me a chance to appeal in front of the academic committee. However, I need help preparing my defense without knowing the allegations or evidence against me. Is it legal and ethical for the university to act this way without providing any proof? I would really appreciate some guidance on this matter.

Thank you very much great video, I have to defend my self some time this week or the beginning of next week. I am trying to prepare my self for this as I cannot afford an F in this class as I need a high gpa to transfer schools. I am legitimately concerned, but I have gathered some sources of information that were used in the essay and I also ran my essay through multiple plagiarism checkers and they seemed to be mostly unique and original with the exception of 1 or 2 sentences which were not paraphrased (only due to the fact that I had forgotten to do so) I plan to admit to my mistakes but also explain that it was an unintentional honest mistake on my part and I will try to bargain a deal for a warning or a lesser punishment. I really hope I can defend my self properly as this is my first year in college and my very first experience defending my self in a situation like this. The video was very helpful thank you again.

Anyone out there knows what should I do in my situation? Last sem, i was caught looking up a question i didn’t know on the final. I consulted with the professor and admitted to doing it. I did the assigned work given by him. All that is done. As you know, he has submitted a report, and rightfully so. I then got an email saying i have multiple reports as this recent one is my second one. As you know, my school counts the first report as a warning and the second as an actual offense (for everyone). I was confused as to when was the first report. Apparently, my first report was of the sem before, in the fall of 2021. So i emailed them what was it and when was it. It was in a class i took at fall sem 2021, it was when i was using headphones during an online midterm, where it was recorded (had a face cam during the test). For the full context, it was my freshmen year of college, it was my first midterm of any class, my senior year of high school was fully online. So me being the student, it was just a habit of me using my headphones for online classes and tests. The professor then consulted me with and talked with me about it. She asked me if i knew there was something wrong i did during the test. Me being terrified and geniunely not knowing what i did said no. She told me no devices were allowed during the test. I then said my phone was away, even the calculator. She then brings up the syllabus and points out devices, it didn’t state specifically headphones on it but it did state phones, electronic devices. For my side of the story: I was nervous about my first online midterm so i prepared everything the day before. Comes the time for the midterm, it was a software that closes all tabs, programs before starting it (like windows, Spotify, and powerpoints and word docs). There was instructions before starting the test i had to follow such as a mic check, a face cam check , your id check, and a 360 degree view of your environment. So i followed them and started the test. Not knowing that headphones was absolutely not needed during the test, i had them on and left them on because i was just focused on the test, it didn’t matter to me, there was nothing playing on it, it was just quiet. So i did the whole test while wearing headphones, with nothing playing on it. Weeks later, comes the meeting with my professor, we discussed what i did and told her truthfully. During the time, i didn’t know what the professor could do and their place in power. Me being fresh out of high school assumed she could remove the report. She told me if this was my first report, it would be a considered a warning. I took it as a warning in her class and not on the actual transcript. So as time goes on, I didn’t know what happened with the report so moved on. It was then counted as a warning on my report with no appeal. Was this my fault? Was this my mistake? Fast forward, where I actually did it and admitted to it, and took the responsibility. I didn’t know what to do so sent a letter explaining this situation (the situation im telling you now) Fast forward to present day: I am now in the position of submitting an appeal for the second report. (Which i admitted to, to where this option kind of does not work anymore since i admitted to the professor) OR requesting a hearing ONLY when your second report has been upheld without an appeal. My only option it looks like here is to request a hearing. What should I do? Im just asking because I don’t know how i should prepare for this mentally. Sorry just wanted to tell my story to someone.

@@willf.7227 i have not yet, i sent a letter basically explaining my side of the story, they emailed me back saying this is not we are looking for in an appeal letter, and made sure what they read is correct, admitting to it. They gave me an extension of whether i choose to have a hearing or write another appeal letter, but how could I write an appeal letter if i admitted to it? Just don’t know how to approach this.

@@urekmazino7785 The first report is probably too late to appeal. The second report is probably difficult to appeal as you already admitted to the wrongdoing. Therefore, it might be good to simply request a hearing so that you can carefully explain and respectfully ask for leniency. The ground for leniency would be that you were misled regarding the seriousness of the first report and that the first report did seem to implicate some uncertainties (headphones explicitly prohibited or not).

I am doing my masters program in UK and cleared 13/14 modules with good marks. I was waiting for the results of my last module and dissertation i have submitted. If everything goes fine then i would have recieved my masters degree by this year November in UK. Hi. I was accused by the teacher's assistant of using my phone during the final exam because another student told him. I was never seen using my phone by the teacher's assistant. I currently have the lowest sanction with the university because it is my first time with student misconduct, but the biggest penalty was that my professor didn't count my final exam grade . Do you think it is worth it for me to represent myself and fight my case? This has caused me a lot of stress which has affected my health and my focus in school. Thank you!

Hi. I actually have the same problem as you. I cheated during an exam that used a webcam to monitor us. I got the answers from the Chegg website. It was my second time taking this course and I couldn't take the risk of failing it again. I am a Junior in college and this was my first time cheating during an exam. I received a letter from the dean of students where they set up an appointment to go over everything. I'm not sure if you'll see this comment but do you know what they do during the hearings and how they decide on what sanction to place students in who are guilty? I am terrified. I don't want to fight my case. This never happened to me before and I'm not sure what to do about it. Do you have any advice? Anything would be a big help right now. Thank you.

The professor accusing me is the chair of the committee. He will not be present, but I feel it’s a made out case.

I am fucked and to be honest i dont think there is a way out. Loans would kill me in my countries Pay rate and all the shame i will get in future. Hey Guys , I am an international student . I basically got caught cheating for a subject for which I admitted. I am forced to retake it again. This created a lot of mental pressure on me thoughtout my course. Now for the same subject I even feared going in the classroom. I tried everything I have tried to calm myself down and sit in the class everyweek, I cant stay in that room with those scary numbers and slides with figures , I instantly get panic attacks . Now I am graduating in 10 days but I received a notice today just minutes before finals- imagine seeing just before the exam of the most rigrous sibject I have ever studied till date ( this is my 2nd) saying I have breached attendance integrity. To be honest I am guilty . I dont see a way out of this. I cant take this now emptionally, mentally and financially. I will be sent home to my country . I dont know what I would do! I am totally lost and thinking to end everything.
