Just a Girl and Her Books if you are a researcher who has to do teaching as part of the contract then I say do it[ basically professors in colleges and something similar] It’ll be fun when you get to experiment things on your terms. But if you are teaching high school or under-systems that follow a much more rigorous curricula and teaching is all you get, i would not say don’t do it but know that you need to have tons of patience and it’s more draining than rewarding.

I took a Research and Writing class at Augusta University. The entire grade depended on the paper you wrote. One student submitted a paper. The professor, Dr. Calahine, was grading papers when she came to this student's. She read about half-way down the page, put an "F" on it, and went to the next paper in the stack. After she had passed back the papers, the student in question went to her office angry and demanded to know why she got an "F." Dr. Calahine reached back, took a book off her shelf, and showed the student were she had copied word-for-word. The book...was written by Dr. Calahine.

Liz: I had 2 students who took a test near each other and both had a bizarre (and misspelled) answer to one question, with most answers the same wording/spelling as well. When I showed them both the tests, they immediately looked at each other in shock and exclaimed, "You cheated off my paper!" The principal said I couldn't pursue it with the parents at all since I couldn't prove which one cheated, so I had to give them the same grade and 'forget about it'.

Just because you were able to pass effortlessly doesn’t mean other students have that same ability. I have never cheated during college (I mean, so far) but I don’t mind if other students do. @@ella-louisewhite7938 i agree here. I feel like plagiarism is lying, and I can't stand lying, so I personally haven't cheated and never will. I'd rather honestly earn a bad grade by turning something in late (that's usually my problem, I know what I'm doing and I do it well, but I get too distracted or have other things going on). Sometimes you need a little time for yourself doing something fun, especially in colleges like mine that are rigorous, but for no real reason since its not a well known school. I mean most of us are nearly alcoholics because school gets so stressful, so I can understand why people cheat (though I still don't condone it, and my school has an honor code anyway so you can get suspended, fail the class, etc. if you do cheat)

Reminds me of how Salvador Dali was ostracised by the surrealist community for his fascination with fascism only to later attempt reclaiming him after his rise to greater popularity. I myself was not encouraged whatsoever at home to pursue art, really more discouraged, and so took no art classes in school until being forced by graduation requirements, councillor error and class availability to join an ART 2 class. A guaranteed pass due to the error not being mine, I still applied myself and made many works. As it turned out, nearly all of these pieces, which I left behind, were later displayed prominently and enduringly in the school and a couple were used in their literature. Sucks being vindicated too late, but at least it was in our lifetimes, reward or not!

I'm reminded of a class I took a long time ago. We had to read our persuasive essays in front of the class. Some jock figured he'd be slick and plagiarize someone else's work. However he couldn't even be bothered to at least take a few minutes to skim through it before class. In the middle of presenting views which were supposedly his own, he paused for a moment and said "Well, I don't know about THAT." Another brilliantly conceived plan that inexplicably failed to work.

One of my male students turned in a paper he'd gotten from the net in which the author talked about what she did with her husband. So I asked him "how's your husband?" in front of the whole class. He said "I don't have a husband!" Then I opened his paper and read it out. After the laughter died down, I told him he shouldn't be copying essays off the internet without reading them properly.

Only difference is that most students wouldn't even take the time to plagiarize because that would take some effort. They wouldn't turn in anything and then at the end of the term, their parents would call wanting to know why the teacher failed their child. Then the parents would tell the principal that their child's failure is due to the fault of the teacher because the teacher couldn't teach. The teacher is ALWAYS at fault and all the children are little angels.

I had a professor that hated me because I made a respectful suggestion that would help us and he didnt really appreciate it. He picked my papers apart sentence by sentence every time. I was an English minor and was getting A's in all my English classes and this was a music history class. Another student literally put a fake quote by Bach with cuss words in block quotes and never got called out. There are other professors who really do care about the success of their classes as well and will read everything. I kind of respect their dedication.

I used to write papers for students in high school to make money. Usually around $25-$50 a paper depending. One of the ones I wrote was really good and later in college I went back, found it, reworked it a little and submitted it since it was aplicable to the class / assignment. I had forgotten it was one of the papers I had written and sold and apparently the student I sold it too had uploaded it online to one of those websites where you can buy papers so HE could make money off it. My teacher (sort of) discovered this. I couldn’t really explain that it WAS my own paper and words because I probably would have just incriminated myself further. Plagiarism inception.

Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in the Cretaceous period, about 140 million years ago, and diversified after the rise of flowering plants. More than 12,500 of an estimated total of 22,000 species have been classified.[5][6] They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and the distinctive node-like structure that forms their slender waists. My student submitted a paper to me that had this phrase inside, "to purchase the book by abc author on xyz topic, click here". Another student submitted a paper to me with those reference numbers in brackets [23] etc, and I asked him in class, "I did not see the citations associated with the numbers, and also the numbers are not in order," Of course he had no idea what those numbers represent, just wanted to know if I could get a funny response in turn. Also, during university, my classmate was short of material to meet the total wordings in his essay. So he started quoting a cricket match that he had seen. He didn't expect the teacher would actually read through the 100+ submitted essays. So, when his essay was read aloud in class, we had real fun.

Kinda have to give props for the cricket. Would give more had it worked. (Some blame goes to the professor for creating a word or page limit. I never, ever do that. I give a ball-park length and tell them that if they can do the assignment in fewer pages clearly and thoroughly, great. I like shorter papers, they're easier to grade. I do usually give fairly strict maximum lengths though; I like my students and I like hearing their ideas, but I also like getting a change to sleep at a decent hour.)

I remember I took the fall for my classmates because 7 of them handed the same paper. Even though I took the fall, I didn’t lose my grade because my teacher is smart enough to figure out that my writing is too flowery. So he didn’t mark the other five and gave me a barely passable grade with a 65% with a note that said written on the last page “Good job but it could’ve been an 87%”. The one person that did get mark’d also got a 65%, only because he was smart enough to edit some paragraphs, comments etc. Though he left the core the same, which the teacher picked up. Long story short; if the Teacher knows your character. They’re going to know if you plagiarised and they keep that to themselves most of the time.

I found out because I was going to turn in the same program, it was awesome as hell, I wrote a graphing program that did some Electronics problems that normally takes 2-3 pages to do and it turned out it that in the process of doing it, I created a program that did all Algebra problems and graphed them. I went to do my presentation for the project to the Dean and he told me someone else had already turned it in . To prove it was mine I had him load the program, the idiot that stole it hadn't noticed that I sign my programs by making the first letter of each REM statement spell my name. I spotted it instantly and asked the Dead to write down the first letter of every REM statement. He knew I was telling the truth but he wanted me to make something different anyway instead of turning in something I wrote in high school. I presented the Menu program I wrote for DOS that gave a beautiful menu instead of a prompt when the computer loaded. I had written that for myself years ago as well. Got an A

@@ozzDeveveloperOpenForWork The Dean noticed that my high school classmate had turned it in the year before. He had gotten my program from the high school teacher. He had to convert it from Apple IIC Basic to standard IBM Basic but it only entailed changing the Clear Screen command and he changed my colors. That guy was an asshole throughout school, he used snitching as a form of bullying. I still get pissed off about it

@@brodybarr5194 The jackass went to school with me from Kindergarten all the way through college. I changed majors 3 times so I went an extra year in college before I graduated. The jackass had graduated and had a job at the college. The Dean told him to resign the next day then he found out that the Jackass wasn't doing his job anyway, he had the student assistants doing everything while he watched TV all day in his office. That jackass was always a sack of crap, he's a fancy nurse now making $120K a year, I guarantee he doesn't know what he's doing. Jackass cheated constantly and used snitching as a method of bullying.

When a student goes from C- and D's to A level work overnight you're going to do a google search. Especially when said paper suddenly stops mid sentence at the bottom of the page. What really blew my mind was when I confronted the young man in question he claimed he had no idea what I was talking about. When I showed him the paper he had submitted with a side by side comparison to the original text he just looked at me with dazed bewildered eyes. His story was that "somehow" more than 3/4 of his text was word for word exactly the same as the one I found on the Internet. He had no explaination for why his text suddenly cut out mid sentence. I suggested a botched copy/paste be he was SURE it couldn't be that...

Catching them isn’t the hard part. Convincing admin to let them have a 0 is where it gets difficult. “But Johnny didn’t mean to purchase a paper for $19 and turn it in as his own! It was an accident.” And somehow that is what admin chooses to believe.

Then the professor gives exams that are 100% on quizlet verbatim. When the entire class gets A's on every assignment there might be something going on.

I bet schools do that knowing the students will cheat and it'll look great for the board that funds the school when they look at the student grade statistics. Better grades = more money. Schools pump out inept individuals the country slowly derails itself. If stupidity is normalized in u.s it wont end well. People arent supposed to get offended by being called dumb, it should be embarrassing for starters.

I had a professor who did this, was only 1/3 of our grade. Was a boon as the other 2/3 of your grade was completely subjective and mostly just up to how he was feeling that day.
