I took a Research and Writing class at Augusta University. The entire grade depended on the paper you wrote. One student submitted a paper. The professor, Dr. Calahine, was grading papers when she came to this student's. She read about half-way down the page, put an "F" on it, and went to the next paper in the stack. After she had passed back the papers, the student in question went to her office angry and demanded to know why she got an "F." Dr. Calahine reached back, took a book off her shelf, and showed the student were she had copied word-for-word. The book...was written by Dr. Calahine.

When I showed them both the tests, they immediately looked at each other in shock and exclaimed, "You cheated off my paper!" The principal said I couldn't pursue it with the parents at all since I couldn't prove which one cheated, so I had to give them the same grade and 'forget about it'.

I'm reminded of a class I took a long time ago. We had to read our persuasive essays in front of the class. Some jock figured he'd be slick and plagiarize someone else's work. However he couldn't even be bothered to at least take a few minutes to skim through it before class. In the middle of presenting views which were supposedly his own, he paused for a moment and said "Well, I don't know about THAT." Another brilliantly conceived plan that inexplicably failed to work.

Just because you were able to pass effortlessly doesn’t mean other students have that same ability. I have never cheated during college (I mean, so far) but I don’t mind if other students do. @@ella-louisewhite7938 i agree here. I feel like plagiarism is lying, and I can't stand lying, so I personally haven't cheated and never will. I'd rather honestly earn a bad grade by turning something in late (that's usually my problem, I know what I'm doing and I do it well, but I get too distracted or have other things going on). Sometimes you need a little time for yourself doing something fun, especially in colleges like mine that are rigorous, but for no real reason since its not a well known school. I mean most of us are nearly alcoholics because school gets so stressful, so I can understand why people cheat (though I still don't condone it, and my school has an honor code anyway so you can get suspended, fail the class, etc. if you do cheat)

Also, during university, my classmate was short of material to meet the total wordings in his essay. So he started quoting a cricket match that he had seen. Kinda have to give props for the cricket. Would give more had it worked. (Some blame goes to the professor for creating a word or page limit. I never, ever do that. I give a ball-park length and tell them that if they can do the assignment in fewer pages clearly and thoroughly, great. I like shorter papers, they're easier to grade. I do usually give fairly strict maximum lengths though; I like my students and I like hearing their ideas, but I also like getting a change to sleep at a decent hour.)

I was a 7th grade science teacher in 1997 and during our unit on the animal kingdom, I had each student do a report on an animal. I had a student stand in front of the class and read word-for-word the encyclopedia entry for "Wales". Worse, no one in the room but me noticed that he wasn't doing a report on "Whales." He talked about Welsh customs and architecture and stuff like that. I wasn't the best teacher in the world; it was my first semester.

I had a professor that hated me because I made a respectful suggestion that would help us and he didnt really appreciate it. He picked my papers apart sentence by sentence every time. I was an English minor and was getting A's in all my English classes and this was a music history class. Another student literally put a fake quote by Bach with cuss words in block quotes and never got called out. There are other professors who really do care about the success of their classes as well and will read everything. I kind of respect their dedication.

Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in the Cretaceous period, about 140 million years ago, and diversified after the rise of flowering plants. More than 12,500 of an estimated total of 22,000 species have been classified.[5][6] They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and the distinctive node-like structure that forms their slender waists. Only difference is that most students wouldn't even take the time to plagiarize because that would take some effort. They wouldn't turn in anything and then at the end of the term, their parents would call wanting to know why the teacher failed their child. Then the parents would tell the principal that their child's failure is due to the fault of the teacher because the teacher couldn't teach. The teacher is ALWAYS at fault and all the children are little angels.

The opposite of this happened to me. When I was in senior year, I submitted a digital self portrait (made from tiny images of my favourite CD covers, like pixels to make an image of my face.) It was not the best thing ever, but for the 2000s I thought it was pretty damn good for a teenager. My Art teacher was old school and thought digital art was bullshit, my final grade was a D... The kicker... The very next year, after I graduated, my little sister brought home the new Student Journal, and on the front cover was my dumb face looking all inquisitive into the distance... THE SAME SUBMISSION THEY THOUGHT WAS BAD ENOUGH TO GRADE A D, THEY THEN THOUGHT WAS A GOOD ENOUGH TO REPRESENT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL THE NEXT YEAR...

Reminds me of how Salvador Dali was ostracised by the surrealist community for his fascination with fascism only to later attempt reclaiming him after his rise to greater popularity. I myself was not encouraged whatsoever at home to pursue art, really more discouraged, and so took no art classes in school until being forced by graduation requirements, councillor error and class availability to join an ART 2 class. A guaranteed pass due to the error not being mine, I still applied myself and made many works. As it turned out, nearly all of these pieces, which I left behind, were later displayed prominently and enduringly in the school and a couple were used in their literature. Sucks being vindicated too late, but at least it was in our lifetimes, reward or not!

Reminds me when some guys copied my homework when I was a little kid. They were standing behind me and thought I didn't notice. I made 4 math problems wrong on purpose. I erased the answer and corrected when they left. One idiot asked the teacher why I had all right but he had 4 wrong without looking at my graded paper. Lol

I remember in my first semester of university we had a C++ programming test where we all had to type up a code and email our solutions to the teacher in the lab itself and leave. So I did my test fairly easily and my friend next to me was struggling. So he's like "bro please email me your solution" So I'm like "yeah sure I'll do it" And so once I finished and submitted mine, I mailed the solution to my friend. And I forgot about it until 2 days later. We got our grades, and surprisingly, my friend and I got 0/20! I'm like wtf we gotta talk to the teacher. And so we asked our teacher what happened. And do u know what happened? That dumbass friend of mine forgot to remove my name and add his name in the submission!! And not only that, he didn't even send a separate email to the teacher. He just forwarded the email I sent him! And it clearly shows I emailed him first! FML

When I was younger three people in my class copied off a website. When we got the marks back, our teacher put the website on the board and got each kid to read the first paragraph of their homework and then the paragraph on the board... they copied it word for word, so my teacher decided that she would spend our lesson by making them all rap their homework with alternating lines in front of everyone... rlly funny to watch tho as they weren’t embarrassed and just went for it.

I plagiarized myself once. I was in 12th grade Creative Writing class. The class was, shall we say, very low-grade on the intellect, and the teacher had low expectations. The night before we were supposed to turn in our final fiction story that we were to have been working on all year, I found something I had lying around that I wrote in eighth grade, retyped it, and turned it in. She gave me a C, and she wrote on it that it was "almost too good" and that she had a "hard time believing" I wrote it! God only knows how awful everyone else's papers were, for mine to shine so. I wanted to show her the four-year-old source document, but I just went up to her desk and said, "I don't know what to tell you. I wrote this." She took it back and then gave me an A- the next day. The minus, I suppose, just to show me she still had doubts.

I'm a teacher, and I can verify the behavior of these students. It seems like they believe they are both INCREDIBLY clever, and the first person to ever tell a lie. EVER. Oh, and they'll try to call a teacher's bluff, even though it's easy to verify things or take action against them. Their confidence is...well, disconcerting. As is their confidence in their own intelligence and ability. Some of them. Some are awesome and give me hope that they'll be able to compensate for the kids features in the above sketch.
