It does NOT snow much in Dallas at all 😉 be prepared for intense, brutal, humid, heat! That’s a real concern to have!

Hi! Haley here! I know, it was a shock when it snowed and was freezing when I went in January. I definitely experienced the heat when I went a couple weeks ago. Props to all you Texans!

Can you talk more about the different specialties in speech pathology? It seems like the majority of jobs are in pediatrics. Is there a way to explore working in different specialties or working with different populations in grad school?
@PediatricSpeechPals

Hello! Yes! In grad school they have you experience a range of populations and settings before you are able to graduate. These settings can vary depending on what grad school you go to and what their opportunities are but you will be able to work with a range of populations. I can’t speak for all grad schools on this one but at my grad school (CSUSM) we were able to talk to the administrator who helped with our setting placements and see if we could make an opportunity become available if there was a specific location or specialty we were interested in. I would keep communication open and discuss your interests as you go through grad school as you never know what opportunities may open up 😊

Would you guys know how applying to graduate school would be for international college graduates?
@PediatricSpeechPals
@PediatricSpeechPals 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! We know some information on applying after attending an international college but not enough to confidently give advice. We will have to learn more about it! We would suggest reaching out to ASHA for any questions you may have 😊

Also, does it matter what school you earn a graduate degree from if it is accredited by ASHA?

So it seems that it depends on where you want to work after you graduate. If you’re wanting to work in the U.S. after graduation you can only get your master from an english speaking country. But if you go to school in the U.S. and work in the U.S. after it doesn’t matter where you go. We would suggest you get in contact with ASHA to confirm though because there may have been some changes due to COVID.

Any advice for teachers thinking about changing to the SLP field?
@PediatricSpeechPals
@PediatricSpeechPals Жыл бұрын
If you haven’t already had experience shadowing an SLP, I would definitely do that! It can be really helpful!! Also, I would look into SLP post-baccalaureate programs and see the coursework, time investment, and financial investment that you would be embarking on. I would start there!! So fun you’re thinking of changing to being an SLP!! Haley and I both love our jobs but some don’t so it is good to make sure you would like it and it’s worth it before changing. 💕
