Thanks for this. I bought a swede on Saturday and I plan on having it for my tea today, so this is a lot of help!

Good presentation, swedes/turnips are greatly under-appreciated as a vegetable, they're tastier than potatoes. If u take the peelings, chop them up into small pieces, & scatter them in the garden at the base of flowers they make a great source of compost for them.

Loving your thoughts and advice on sustainability I’ll try that out thanks 👍👍

Very helpful, thank you. I'll be making vegetable soup today, and now I can include some swede. :) p.s. Cute kitty drawling in the background made me laugh!

I hate these things as I struggle to slice them, but stupidly buy one occasionally when I see a good price. Always regret it though. I tend to slice it into discs then peel around the edges....eventually. I do wonder how on Earth I hollowed them out as a kid, to use as Halloween lanterns. Never saw pumpkins back then ( 60s / 70s)

They are a bit of a nightmare you need a really sharp knife and some arm strength but it’s worth it in the end 😂👍

@@TheFlatCapChef I don't have great arm strength unfortunately

In England I just bought a big swede - several of them, in fact, for 50p each!

Where I grew up, swede was called turnip, and turnip was white turnip. As for preparation, I find it far easier to slice first and then peel.
@TheFlatCapChef3 жыл бұрын
Whatever works for you FYI turnips are typically small and white, often misnamed

Same for me on the language my family used and if you want to peel it after each to their own, I just find it easier the other way round 👍

I bought one swede yesterday here in Atlanta that was this size almost exactly. Sold by the pound, mine cost exactly $5.00. Not as inexpensive as they once were.

That is quite expensive but every now and then why not they are delicious 👍

They are currently 20 pence in the UK at sainsburys and asda (formerly walmart) big and tasty, shame I couldn't freeze them but they go weird after being frozen
