Thanks for this video, it was refreshing to this old man. My Mother inlaw showed me this method with one exception, she didn't boil her pickles instead used 1/8 teaspoon of Alum to room temperature washed veggies and that kept them crisp longer. I've used this method for dilly beans, Italian hot peppers and any other non acidic veggie(s) for 4 decades and she had used it for many decades before I married into the family. My granny made barrel pickles that sat in the brine in her hand pump room, no running water back then, from time of pickling till they were gone which was months and months. I never got her recipe but sure wish I had before she passed on at 86. If anyone has a similar recipe to granny's please share it with me. 👍👍👍🥒🥒🥒

I made a jar of your refrigerator dill pickles yesterday and sampled them this morning. They are so good!!!! A real game changer for me. I eat a jar of pickles a week and consume the juice. I will not be buying store bought dill pickles again. I love the fact that I can now eat my pickles without all of the chemicals and preservatives I can barely pronounce. We are in Arizona in our rv for the winter and we don't have room to can so, these are perfect. Thank you!!!

Years ago an older friend of mine told me to put a medium size grape leaf in each jar of pickles. The grape leaf makes the pickles very crunchy! So thought I would pass on that bit of knowledge to you. I have done it for years and my pickles stay very crispy for well over a year!! I like the idea of using just a bit of sugar to cut the sour in dill pickles, I might try that!! I usually make sweet dill pickles because my family prefers the sweet instead of the sour dill!!

You are so talented in the kitchen. Are those skills that have been passed down to you from your upbringing?
@chefro12 ай бұрын
I must admit this is an easy, yet gr8 recipe. The only thing I would add is that the person pickling MUST check the jars for proper seal the first 3-4 days, even though we know that if you try the lid and it's "solid" (no pop, does not give in) then it means the jar sealed properly. I haven't done that and 4 of the 8-quart jars I pickled did not seal properly. (worth mentioning that I always use NEW/FRESH LIDS) After about 1 1/2 week when I decided to move them down to the basement to clear the kitchen floor, I found 4 of the lids "bubbled" up...I knew right away they did not seal properly. Two of the jars had already "mushy" cucs, so I had to discard them. I boiled again juice, replenished the two jars discarded with new cucs and I stuck all the sealed jars in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 mins. I hope that ensures proper sealing... Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Love the videos but with the bread & butter pickles I cut the sugar in half when you have all of the ingredients in the pot use your little finger to dip into the sauce to see if it needs more sugar I sometimes use just 1/2 cup of sugar for all of it have done water melon pickle rinds also in the jars. For regriferator ones!!!

I’m surprised you don’t water bath the pickles, but they probably are crisper that way! Also, the hot jar on the cold counter is not a great idea, it could make the jar break. Great job on the pickles! I’ve never had good success making them.
