This is amazing. Didn't see that reusable plot twist coming. I'd assumed finger cracks were a declining estrogen/post menopausal lady problem, but you proved me wrong. Thx

Nitrile and latex are different materials. Latex is a rubber that many people are allergic to, use Nitrile instead.

Thanks for the advice.. I’ve started to get random splitting happening on some fingers near edge of the nail. 1 in particular starts at the top of fingertip and the crack just continues until it gets under the nail. Needless to say it hurts a lot at times

Thanks for watching and your comment. I am wearing gloves as I am sitting here writing this reply. I don’t have to wear them all day and night, but it does help particularly in the winter when the air is dry. Splits in the skin on your fingers can be very painful. When I am doing hard work outside in the winter and have to wear leather gloves I wear water impermeable gloves inside the leather gloves. Many years ago when I finished college in Georgia I took a job with a large chemical company in Michigan in January. When it was extremely cold outside the indoor relative humidity could drop as low as 3%. Within a week my entire body split open. I went to a doctor and he told me I was going to have to stop my habit of showering everyday like I was used to in the southern US. This all took some getting used to. I have always wondered why someone like me who has relatively fair skin and can’t take much sun exposure and doesn’t like excessive humidity has skin that needs the humidity to be normal. I must be deficient in some nutrient or am consuming something that negatively affects my skin.

The actual problem is that the thumb has thick skin and when air is dry it dries out and cracks. The solution is in making the (dry) kin as thin as possible. Use sand paper to just not sand deep such to make it bleeding. If the skin is thin. It is more easily moisturised by the body (water goes much easier through the skin) and it wont crack anymore. Use some thick grease (e.g. PUROL) to cover it (it should pull inside the skin softening it, like greasing leather). Walking around with gloves is not a handy solution. If I have cracks that are opened already very far, I use a sharp knife to (painfully) remove any thick skin around the crack making it thin again. The wound will be able to bleed better, close up and start heal and not dry out more and crack open even further.

Thank you for all you informative videos. All of your videos has taught me much and I appreciate you for the way and what you share. For healing the cut on your thumb twice as quick, or other cuts in the future, try honey and then super glue over it. I cut my thumb to the bone at the joint and through a nerve and had to continue working, so I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide then distilled water. I q-tipped honey into the slice, and put mitre apel super glue over it, and sprayed the applicator on it to harden it instantly. I put a nitrile glove on, then a work glove on. I continued to install a shower valve within the same hour. Without stitches I am happy to be able to continue using my thumb like normal. Just sharing in case it helps you heal quicker too. 👍
