This is a fantastic explanation and one I will always remember. I think over 14 years of Judo I've overthrown five times. I do what you explained but no one ever taught it to me. I only wanted the best transition from throw to newaza. I now have something to teach other than "don't overthrow." Thank you.

All you have to do is bring back the original Judo with everything standup and ground (leg locks, ankle, all the old ground stuff) very simole

This is good stuff. Judo is not just for competition. It is also for self-defence and is a good skill set to have for MMA, Jiujitsu or Sambo competition. Keep up the good work. I would not like to drive my hip into the ground in a street fighting situation unless it is protected by my opponents body. I may need to be able to run after the throw or the submission.

Another great video. I love it when you teach methods that cross over into other arts and self defense. Thank you.

Hey, man, I was listening to your interview with Travis Stevens from a few days ago. I'm a NYC based Judoka. I remember you said something about growing an American brand of Judo. I have an idea I think might work & help you (everyone else) involved. Is there a way I can email you? Btw, love your work. You've really helped my Judo. 🙏💪🥋

This would have come in handy in my 1st BJJ gold medal match. BIG OVERTHROW and 380lbs on my back....face lock and twist into jaw dislocation and I had to tap to the fat-jitsu!

Im glad Im not the only one that realizes this issue with judo. I think they shouldn't reward ippon unless stay on top and in control.
@Hatsukoi839
@Hatsukoi839 3 жыл бұрын
They can always do that, but it doesn’t matter as they already ippon and don’t need to control the opponent already. However, out of judo sport tournament, people usually do controls during practise to enhance their ground work.

It depends on the ippon standard. If it's Japan standard, ippon = death, that throw used in hard surface will disable opponent. Without sufficient power, you won't get ippon . . at Japan

It would be really cool if you taught all the popular throws for self defence and combative exercises. The adjustments for maintaining posture, controlling uke and how all the throws might go either way and why. i.e. leaving uke completely unharmed and discombobulated whilst keeping standing advantage with posture..... vs doing real damage with the throw itself. I feel that if you teach them all the principles then that deeper understanding both reduces injuries in sport and increases competency in real life?

Sport judo vs Street judo. That would be a great topic to touch upon plus you'll have tons of videos to illustrate the difference until the tournament circuit comes back, whenever that is. Also address the challenges of multiple assailants for someone without a striking background because in my experience, it's never just one.

I rarely to never do the overthrow, because as a street fighter or someone who has engaged in many unplanned street fights and seen thug battles, u don't want to ever do the overthrow, even though ur throw may destroy him, depending on the texture of the ground, u still want to remain on the top, in fact when I throw hard ippons am always on my feet standing,I see people rolling over or being under but I hate the idea from a realistic point, also with the fact that the street isn't with padded mat,but rough,concrete, sharp stones, and dirty,nice video shintaro

You can tell he doesn't use that crashpad very often (not necessarily a bad thing) because he put it seam up. This makes it vulnerable to tearing from the repeated impact of throws. Crashpads will last longer if you put them seam down.
