If you train mostly in Judo or in other grappling arts like BJJ, Wrestling, etc....you should always work in some Boxing or Muay Thai on the side. At least once a week or a couple times a week. It's an important part to self defense and it's great exercise for mind and body.

true in urf always grapplers wins they train how to boxing a little bit and they will make sure they are fast to go for the takedown vs someone who don't even know how to fight judo is enough the dude will not even know how to fall and it's ..

It also teaches aggression in ways judo doesnt. You learm to power through assault and press the attack when you are getting pressed.

Make sure you shout it out when Garry gets his own channel. I'd love to get a bit of striking info, especially on the defensive side/ how to close distance. keep up the great work!

Very glad you're adding this in. I've always had the opinion that you need to learn how to do a technique in order to really know how to defend it. Some places don't teach other techniques/styles, leaving a huge blindspot, or teach them, but are so unfamiliar with the techniques that the teaching and drilling loses its effectiveness. Keep the awesome videos coming!

Thank you! My foundation martial art is striking, but I'm working on adding submission grappling. I like everything you showed. I just want to add a caution with ducking if you are facing someone who uses kicks or especially, knees. Weaving is all right as long as you don't bend forward too much but bend the knees to do it.
@Lardfist04 жыл бұрын
Noice! It would be cool to see striking to throw to submission.

I've been doing boxing for a year, and just started judo a couple of weeks ago. I always wanted to know how to blend the two, so I do some light sparing with my friend. The latter part of this video was quite useful, even though I only know a couple of throws and take downs.

Thank you for this! Id really like to see you do some videos where you combine judo and striking like some strategies. There are tons of videos on mma out there but not so much on judo based mma. Btw I think the duck is not the best in striking other than boxing because you can get a knee or kick to the face of you do it repeaterly
@henrikg13884 жыл бұрын
Very well explained. However, even if there are fewer techniques per se in boxing, you have to train a lot and do sparring. There is no way to learn striking from a video, but you really caught the essence of it. Judo + Boxing/"Kickboxing" is to me, still the ultimate self defense combination.

In a boxing match if you have to think, it is too late for you. It must be instinct. a boxer throws straight punches if their hands are up and hooks if they drop their hands. The best boxing styles are the simplest.
