Great advise! A little perspective from the other side of this conversation. He is absolutely right, we have no idea what this process looks like from your end. But as a chef we appreciate art. Open and honest conversations really set the tone of the job. Our photographer had never done food photography before but she was very honest about it. She came in for three days as part of our training program. Each day we plated 10-13 items from the menu to educate the team on presentation, ingredients, and flavor. She would stage and take the pictures between plating and tasting while we talked over ingredients and possible allergens. (Yes she got to eat with the team lol). Sure there were a few issues and she did come back the next week to redo a couple of dishes but she explained that could happen when we started. Over the three days she shot 35 plates, the 7 team members, and tons of “aesthetic” shots (front of house and back of house). We felt it went well but again a lot of it was because she was very open, direct, and honest about her experience, process, and vision.

Hey Scott! your content and advise are second to none. I feel like I found the holy grail of useful no-nonsense information. I'm a restaurant photographer myself and can relate to what you say in so many levels. I'm officially now binging on your content.

Super helpful! I had a client that sent me shot list (insta and white background shots) but no reference or any idea what he wanted. Of course in the end i created some types of shots that he didn't like, he wanted complicated composite images in the end but after we agreed on price, which covered maybe only white e commerce shots. Aaand in the end he wanted to choose from the shot list which photos he likes and pay. Absolutely ba......ks. But learned alot from it and you covered most of it here with this video. Thank you ;)

Hi Alex , I run into this all the time , after watching these videos , going forward here are somethings Im going to implement , send an estimate not a quote " never the two shall meet " , Get a complete shot list from client , then send a official quote spelling out images need, Get a non-refundable deposit upfront before starting the job.

How do you compete with prices from Uber Eats? Since they badly pay the photographers (in my country they pay 38€ for 5 shots for a session of 45 minutes to 1 hour) I assume they do not charge a fair price to the restaurant owners that we can't compete with.

Hi Scott , Sorry quick question when you say correction do you mean re-shoot or editing ?
@ItzzBabyGirl3 жыл бұрын
I think editing is is more or a 'retouch' thing. So corrections meaning re-shooting. This is what I think.

Hey Scott great video , now my experiences working with small business makes perfect sense . I do have a questions for you, how would you handle an inquiry from a pay per click sites ? Often times they don't give enough details to give a proper quote.But they want a quote ( I know , Im shaking my head in my hands as Im writing this )
@matrixphotodesign4 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott , Ive been really thinking pricing after watching your video for the 4th time ( Not stocking you I promise ) , I going to start using a layered approached to answering inquiries. Thanks you videos always get the gears in my head going, I did notice some smoke coming out of my ears , not quite sure if that's a good thing " LOL

Hi Scott! From your videos, I understand that the client pays for the props. But what happens to these props after the photo shoot? Do you give them to the client, do you sell and keep the money from sales to yourself?
@TinHouseStudioUK4 жыл бұрын
It depends. If they dont pay a finding fee then I would take the props as that fee. If they do then I would ask them what they want to do. Everyone has their own needs I guess.
