How to print and cut digital elements using Photoshop and a Silhouette

Since discovering the AC Digitals store (thanks Essie!), I've been printing and cutting up a storm! SO I thought I'd show you how you can use Photoshop and your Silhouette machine to make the job much quicker and easier!

This video is pretty old now. If you upgrade your software to 4.4, it does the tracing for you on all transparent PNG files 😉

dearly dee So bummer thing... I just tried this and my cuts are off. I tried to calibrate but that didn't help. They're in the same exact same spot in the software. Did you have problems with getting it to cut in the correct place?

+Tiffany K No, I had no troubles at all. Bummer. I can only suggest making sure that your printer isn't doing any scaling or fit to page. That would alter the placement.

I've never used photoshop - I find it intimidating. However as a huge print and cut fan I can't believe how quickly you created those cut lines! I do each one individually and it takes forever! I'm going to track down some photoshop tutorials and I will be rewatching this one often!!!

I'm glad it was helpful but this is a SUPER old video and if you make sure you update your Silhouette software, you do not need to use photoshop at all. You can now import the transparent PNG files straight into the software and they will have a cut line already around them. so you can go straight to the print and cut feature.

If you ever tried tracing around complicated, coloured shapes of elements like these in the Silhouette Studio, you’d know why! Doing it in PS like this is much easier and less time consuming.

What photoshop program do you recommend for this? Starting from square one here, deal with the long and frustrating process of returning Lightroom because I thought it’s what I needed but I was mistaken. Fill me in?

I use the full version of Photoshop. That might not be the best option for you, but try the free trial and see how you go.

Anything I can get my hands on and that will go through my printer! Best to experiment with your own equipment and what it can handle but I use vellum, sticker paper, card stock, pattern paper. You name it, I've probably tried it.

There's a snipping tool if you're using a PC. Search snipping tool on your computer and you should find it. Very easy to use!
