Your link above for custom paper profile creation page is invalid. What is the easiest way to install the ICC profiles in the driver module after one downloads them? In Windows of course.

when you do this, does it have the canon printer use the vibrant settings made for lets say a epson icc profile? I have epson photo paper, so select epson icc gloss photo, and the canon should have all the colors as vivid as it was printing from an epson 8500?

Never knew about this Jose so I learnt something new today 👍 I guess it kind of makes sense however because when we create custom profiles we are essentially giving new colour coordinates to the standard print driver for a given OEM paper type ( thus why you still have to select a recommended paper type when making profiles with non OEM papers ).

Hi very interesting information. But what colour matching settings do you use when printing charts for paper profiling? Surely it should be ‘none’
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 жыл бұрын
You have to chose none and most importantly the charts cannot be opened by just any application. As most of them will try to reassign a color space to them. Qimage has a special chart printing option so neither the app or driver is affecting color. They need to be printed 100% RAW.
@johncollier5693
@johncollier5693 4 жыл бұрын
Jose Rodriguez Thanks for your reply. I have tried both profile options in Lightroom with a file GretagMacbeth Color Checker Color Rendition Chart and both prints are visually the same. If you put the same profile in both places you definitely get double profiling. I need to profile two papers will try Qimage. Thanks again for the info. I am using the Canon Pro 1000.

I've got a sidebar question that hopefully you can help with, Joe! I finally got around to upgrading my Win 7 machine to Win 10. The upgrade went off without a hitch, and much to my delight I noticed that the Canon Pro-100 drivers were installed automatically (it was connected to my machine during the Win 10 install). Anyway, my question is: Where is the "Maintenance" tab? I've opened every properties window that I could possibly find, that's associated with the Pro-100. Including what looks to be an incredibly dumbed-down printing "app". Although all of the tabs look familiar from Win 7, I can't find the "Maintenance" tab. Has Windows 10 done away with that? If so, then how do I print a nozzle check page, or command a cleaning, etc? Thanks! I didn't know where else to ask the question and be sure of getting a response! :)
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 жыл бұрын
Then you do not actually have the pro100 driver. Uninstall it and disconnect the PRI Ted from tbe PC. You never leave it connected when installing a new OS. Download the latest driver for win10 from Canon driver support. Install the driver by double clicking it. When prompted connect via USB. the printer will be installed and you will see it in the Devices and Printers tab.

Once you have it installed...right click printer preferences and the maintenance tab is the far right one.

@@cheo1949 Ah... that's probably it! I was so intent on getting Win 10 installed that I didn't even consider unplugging my devices from the computer during the installation process. And so when - after the Win 10 installation was complete - I saw that Win 10 had automatically detected the Pro-100 and provided drivers for it (with its own app to boot), I assumed those were the Win 10 drivers for the Pro-100! Yay! I mean the printer works normally! And, the printer's Properties box shows the "General/Sharing/Ports/Advanced/Color Management/Security/Device Settings" tabs as I was used to. BUT... But it's when I set out to print a nozzle check that I noticed the "maintenance" tab is missing from the Properties window. So, NOT "yay"! I'll do as you suggest and delete the Windows-provided drivers and download the Canon drivers. Thanks!

Thanks Jose this looks really useful. Quick question - I create custom vinyl stickers and the software I have to use with my vinyl cutter isn't from any major software house so really doesn't have anything in the way of colour management (there's no option to use ICC profiles etc, I think it just prints via the driver). So if I use this method with simpler software with no colour management of it's own, would it work and print via the ICC profile selected in the driver? Also is it necessary to disable the software's colour management? So via the driver go to Page Setup > Print Options and then tick "Disable the color profile setting of the application software". I would have thought it would be on the safe side to tick this to make sure the software isn't controlling colour at all? Thanks :)

Afternoon Jose. Hope you and your family are well. After printing with the Canon Pro1000 have you ever noticed banding occurring? I printed a BW yesterday and noticed, banding @ the bottom of the print: horizontal lines going full length across the paper. This is often characteristic of low ink but I have plenty of ink in all bins. I used Red River with a Red River profile. Any thoughts?
@cheo1949

Because EPSON doesn't allow you to access icc profiles in that manner. You have to use profiles through your editing app and turn off color management in the driver.

Joe, does this mean that when you are printing on non-canon paper (Ilford, for example), that when you select the Ilford icc profile, you should also select icm to control under matching? Or none, as I thought you have always recommended in the past?

As I explained..click on the paper choice they suggest. Then Color/Intensity Manual Adjustment. Matching. ICM. Auto and choose the profile. In this case Make sure your editing app is NOT controlling color or you will double profile.

Are you setting your driver to NOT CONTROL Color when you choose Lightroom to do it? You are DOUBLE Profiling if you do not. It's one or the other. That is why when you tell Lightroom to let the driver do it you get correct rendition. You should get identical results regardless whether you let the Driver Or LR do it. BUT NEVER BOTH. You should be printing with the same exact profile either way.

Sure. But you can also do it through the driver. I don't know why you are getting different results. Should be identical as long as you are using the sand rendering intent on either LR / DRIVER or Through the driver using ICM mode and then choose the third party or custom ICC profile and sane rendering intent .

Hi Jose. I've been trying to figure this out for too long now and i've given up. There are no resources that i'm aware of that can help me. Basically i'm trying to match whats on my monitor to my prints from a Canon pixma 7760, with ilford classic glossy 240gm paper. When i look at videos and articles everything seems irrelevant to what i'm trying to do with the equipment i'm using. I purchased an xrite i1 display studio colorimeter and calibrated my moniter and am now using the profile for my moniter. I'm using windows 10 and have an Aero 17xb laptop, 1080p display. I really dont know what to do from this point on, or even what questions to ask. I did notice though that the drop down box from which to select profiles does not exist here. I'm completely new to all this

I can only conclude it is not possible for this printer at all. It would seem this is a job for a professional. Are you aware of the capability of the Canon pixma 7760? I'm done with this im just wasting hours upon hours and weeks upon weeks trying to figure out something that s just a dead end probably going to have to pay someone just to find out if its possible yo do it let alone actually do it.

On the Pixma iP8720 this can't be done. When setting the Manual Color Adjustment under the "Matching" tab there is no ICC Profiles menu, no drop down to select other ICC Profiles. After selecting ICM, below that there are only TWO selections/drop down menus: Input Profile and Rendering Intent. There is no ICC Profiles menu. Does that mean this feature is only available in the Pixma Pro printers and up? I believe that is the case.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 3 жыл бұрын
I just checked on my TS8720 and yes. You are correct. That option is not available. First you have to choose Photo PRINTING to access Color/ Intensity Manual Intensity and then MATCHING. Your only AUTO ICC matching is for Canon media. So either choose Driver Matching or ICM. There is not AUTO option which would display other NON Canon ICC profiles. Apparently it's because the 8720 is really an AIO printer and not what they consider a photo printer.
@sl2608
@sl2608 3 жыл бұрын
@@cheo1949 That's interesting. Canon calls the iP8720 a "photo printer". It does not copy or scan, all it does is print photos and I guess a document if you want to, but I don't. @atdakore
@atdakore 4 жыл бұрын
thats just a different way of telling the printer the same thing. I don't think you quite understand how the apps interface with the driver. As soon as you select your profile. it is using that profile, it doesn't matter which Graphic User interface you use to select it, as long as the printer is getting the ICC info. If not Canon chooses the colour that suits, often guessing correctly based on your paper choices. If you select a canon media type and let canon colormatch, it will still use the correct ICC profile. You're really giving out some pretty average advice here Jose. Also your authoritative tone on these matter really dampens your otherwise excellent knowledge on inks and papers. Almost all of your printing knowledge however is very anecdotal, and really isn't useful for the modern technically proficient user.

By the way your remark about my info being mostly "Anecdotal"?
