How to Print RPG Books Yourself

I love big hardcover RPG books as much as the next gamer. But especially with shipping prices right now, getting them can easily be to expansive. But if you want to save money and still have a printed booklet to hold and use at the table, printing them out yourself on a standard office printer can be a great alternative. Let me show you how it's done.

Tha ks for the great overview! Very clearly explained and easy to follow. I've started doing this myself as shipping to Australia is often far more expensive than the price of the books. Also a5 is a mich nicer size to use at the table. An added bonus is that i dont feel bad writing notes directly into the booklet as if it gets to bad you can just print another one. Also, if yoy dont have a long arm stapler, you can open a regular stapler and lay your pages over something soft like some cardboard or packing foam. You will have to bend the ends of the staple down but you can do it.

Although it is significantly more expensive than my home printer, for the larger PDFs (e.g. Raging Swan's All That Glimmers, Traveller Core Rulebook, etc.) to a local copy shop so I can get them *spiral-bound* with a plastic front and cover. Extremely useable and fairly durable. I only do black and white as well.

I own a cartridgless Epson color ink printer that uses separate refillable tanks (HP and Canon also make them) they have all the colors in separate slots so you are only using the ink you need amd a bottle of the black ink lasts for literally thousands of pages before needing a refill, also the 3 other colors are all refillable separately so it's totally economical. The cost for one of these printers is about $225-$700 usd depending on the size, printing speed, photo reproduction quality (higher end versions might use 5 different colors for better accuracy) I bought an Epson that cost me around $300usd and it last and last and last, I pay at least $40-65 per book so it's worth it and I only print what I absolutely need because my collection of gaming stuff is absurd, this helps with space.. paired with a heavy duty long reach stapler that can do up to 50 pages for digest sized books or a $50-100 binding machine for the normal rpg book format size I get super professional results at home much cheaper over the long haul than to go to my local shop and pay to have things printed out imop and everyone around my table can easily have a gifted copy of the rules and whatever other print material they need while keeping their grimey hands off my books lol.

Hi and thanks for your work showing us your experience. Question (sorry if you mentioned it), Could I use 3 ring binders for printed larger RPG books like your DCC you showed? I understand that is not nearly as good as a book binding. But was not sure what the draw backs are of a 3 ring binder before I try it. I am totally new at this and happily overwhelmed by all the PDF options which would make being able to experience more games for less.
