STEP BY STEP PROGRAMMING DIRECTIONS
1 Press and release the "learn" button on the garage opener (Not the remote).
A light will glow for 30 seconds, that's the window of time you will have to do the next step...
2. Press and hold the button on the remote
3. Release the button when the Garage Door Opener lights blink. Congratulations you did it! Go celebrate with a Jamba Juice or something. If your light bulbs are burned out or you have a unit without them your opener will make two clicking sounds.

I followed all the instructions, but the garage door opener isn't learning the new remotes. Both have new batteries and both flash when I hold the button down. No lights or sounds from the garage door opener indicate it's learning the remotes. The unit is very similar to the one in the video. I've tried pressing for one second like you did. I've tried holding the button on the remote down during the entire learning period. Nothing works. I'm at a loss as to what to do now. The old garage door opener still works; the button is sticky, so we bought these 2 new one advertised for liftmaster units. :(

I just tried to do this, but my Chamberlain opener (Model 450) DOESN’T HAVE A LEARN BUTTON. For those looking at this video and in the same predicament, here’s how to program your opener another way: If you have a similar opener unit to mine, you’ll notice that where the “learn button” should be is instead a row of little tiny switches (I think these are called “DIP switches” in computerland). There are 9 of them, and each one is set to 1 of 3 possible positions: Up, Middle or Down. Now, remove the back of your remote, and inside on the circuit board you’ll see a similar row of switches. Now you just need to make the position of each corresponding switch match. You can either change the opener’s switches to match the remote’s, or vice versa. I changed the opener to match the remote, and that worked. (Didn’t try it the other way around, but logically that should work just as well). I used a tiny flat blade screwdriver to flip the switches. Anyway, hope this helps some folks out there.

Yours is the best video I have come across. Some don't even show you how to remove the lens cover. You don't push those buttons, like some people say. You put your thumb on the button and pull on the cover. There is a difference! Thanks for a better explanation of the whole process.

If you are actually programming the motor unit then what happens when you want to program a second remote or ext. wall keypad remote? Does the motor unit learn more than 1 code, or do you need to program them at the same time??

Yes, the "motor" can learn more than one. You program them one at a time. Not all together. So every time you want to add a remote, push the "learn" button.

Hi Adam!i have the Liftmaster professional 1/3 hp and am thrilled that your instructions have helped me to get my remotes to work. We got new batteries and nothing was happening. Now my issue is getting the door to close with the remotes. The light blinks 10 times but won't close the door. The hard wired button on the other hand works but I have to hold the button down or it will stop half way. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Gina Kramm I would check your sensor beam alignment at the door. it's the little laser that detects an obstruction and will cause what you are describing just make sure it's lined up and nothing is blocking it like spider webs or leaves

I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! I left my opener in a rental car and when I went to rental company they had a large box filled with openers. I took 2 however they were not chamberlin but liftmaster. I have been manually opening up the opener and then running into the house to close it and then locking up and then getting into the car. Thank you for the video, very helpful with new homeowners. I would just add that when replacing the battery, the metal clip actually slides out of the remote and can be used as a pry bar, it fits the indention on sides perfectly.

Whats the model number? I would guess that you have the garage door in some sort of lock mode. Does the door open and close?

Well done video 👍 HOWEVER small problem. I have a 3 car garage haven’t used for cars in a while - just storage. Cleaned out 2 of the bays so now checking the remotes. First thing, changed all the batteries. Door 3 is fine with Remote 3. Remote 1 works Door 1. Learn light on Door 2 & light on remote 2 work, but not even sounds. Since I don't need Bay 1, I successfully DEprogrammed Door 1 and tried to connect Remote 1 to Door 2. No Joy. Any suggestions?

Does the make year matter? My lift master has a red/orange learn button and my clicker says 1994 for make year and it won’t learn the clicker signal. I have a new universal chamberlain remote and it worked fine.

Yeah, this used to work. But no longer does. Neither remote works nor does the outside keypad control, all with new batteries. Never had a problem before. Wireless antennae looks fine, no idea how only inside wall button works.

So simple! Didn't save my marriage, but I did save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to progressive. Gieco is more expensive in my area for some reason. It's probabaly all the people not using their turn signals and causing accidents. Most of the time i see an accident it is soemone running into the back of another vehicle. That's just my opinion though. I don't have the actual crash statistics providied by the Sheriff.

I have recently moved into a new home and figured out how to re-program my garage door keypad. My problem is that immediately after programming the keypad the garage door remote/clicker stopped working. Garage door remote was working perfectly prior to programming the keypad. I pushed all 3 buttons on the remote trying to get the garage door to open then the garage light went out. If one of those smaller buttons on the remote controls the garage light could I have turned the light off by the remote? FYI, bulb was changed a month ago. I'm being told that the keypad AND the remote should be able to operate together not that one operation overrides the other. Please help me program my remote and get my garage light to come back on. just have to remember, some of the replacement remotes they say will ONLY work with the openers that have either the RED or the ORANGE lean buttons the openers with the PURPLE learn buttons like this one in the video, some of the replacements will NOT work with those......

Tried it per instructions. Learn light first solid then starts flashing for well over a minute and remote still not working. Have an older Liftmaster garage door opener with 2 buttons, one with a bar the other without the bar. The one with the bar is for the gate opener of the property. the smooth button is for the garage door which isn't working. I kept pressing the remote for 3 or more minutes after pressing the learn button. No light flashed indicating it was programmed. What am I doing wrong and how to fix it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Having followed your video and getting my new 19 GMC programed but the door open now opens BOTH of my lift master doors! Easy fix, unplug one door we never use by why does it open both doors? Code must be so close that it bleeds over, how do I clear the remote to stop this?

Well done video, but why would you recommend buying the battery on ebay when you can find it all over town, pretty much anywhere batteries are sold? 2032 is one of the most commonly used batteries for powering a wide variety of devices.

eBay is not the cheapest place to get 2032 batteries if they are more than $3 each. I bought 4 for around $7-8 at local grocery store (Von's, which is Safeway).

My garage door unit was different looking-mine did not have any plastic cover to take off & I was beginning to think I could not get to this button-but I looked on the back of the box-(it's all enclosed metal)-& saw some control switches & then I got a flashlight & saw a yellow button in a recessed hole. I pushed it in with a plastic pen cap-the garage door light bulb came on like you said it would-so I pushed the new remote button & the door closed immediately-I tried opening it-& it is working great-thanks so much!!!

The motor in my garage door doesn't have a smart or learn button, but an erase button that Im assuming to be the learn button. I erased the codes successfully but Im not able to reprogram them again,when I push the learn (erase) button the led light goes on only while Im pushing the button down but it doesn't holds when I releases it.

I tried this and but did not work for me. Pressed the purple learn button and then pressed the remote button. The bulb did not flicker and the remote was not programmed.
