How To Program A GMC Acadia Smart Key Remote Fob 2017 - 2020

A step by step video on how to program a smart key remote fob to a 2017 - 2020 GMC Acadia.

1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle; then turn the key counterclockwise, to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). The DIC display will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). Remaining remote key fobs can be relearned during the next steps. The DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.
4. Place the new smart key fob in the center console transmitter pocket .
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next remote key fob.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4-6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

Yes! 👏🏼👏🏼 this worked perfectly on my 2020 Acadia Denali. I purchased the vehicle with only 1 existing fob and ordered a 2nd fob from eBay for $20 (instead of $100+ from the dealer). This worked just as you described to program the new fob and reprogram my existing fob. Both fobs were working after completing the process (DIC will display “Ready for Remote 1” then “Ready for Remote 2,” if you have a 2nd - or 3rd or 4th). Thank you for the step-by-step tutorial!

For me, it erased both of the key fobs like it erased the one that I already had that I got with it cause I was in the same situation when we bought one and I tried to program it, but it erased the first one

Thank you for this video! Worked for my 2017 gmc Acadia slt2! *my fob just quit working, tried replacing the battery. That didn’t work. Ordered a new one off Amazon and followed these steps and it worked. *I did have to have my original fob also in the vehicle when programming the new one.

Yes and Yes. This procedure will erase all previous fob sand they will need to be re-programmed. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video, you will repeat steps 4 - 6 after the first fob is programmed

So I just did this yesterday on a 2017 GMC Acadia Denali and it was working I started the car twice but as of this morning the fob only locks and unlocks the car but it won’t start it even in the slot in the console. Any ideas why?

We have only one working remote (with working emergency key) for our 2019 GMC Acadia SLT and we've purchased a new additional remote ACD# 13508275. Do I follow the same instructions in your video for our new remote to then have two working remotes, or do I also need to reprogram the old already working remote also? Thanks

You will just need to re-program in your old remote fob during the procedure, as if it was a new one. So you will do the procedure just like the video but then, If you look at the steps in the description box of the video or in your owners manual, you repeat steps 4-6 for each new remote fob.

You can, but it needs to have been unlocked as these lock to the vehicle after programming. Just be sure the Ebay listing specifically says "unlocked" "flashed" "guaranteed programmable" something along those lines

Woke up today and my fob will flash my car head and brake lights when i push the Lock button But it won’t move the door locks , also when I push the lock buttons on the doors they don’t do any thing , will this help fix my problem?

It sounds like the vehicle is recognizing the remote if the lights are flashing so I'm not sure re-programming the fob will help. Does the vehicle start?

@@PYR-Auto it does start once I’m in the vehicle , but must use the push to start button that’s mounted on the dash beside the ignition. Also both my key fobs started to work randomly a few hours later , and have done the same thing two times since , where they just randomly stop working for anywhere between 10 minutes and 12 hours. Changed the batteries , no help.

Unfortunately if you have just a regular fob, it is not on board programmable and you will not be able to do it yourself.

If the vehicle was built in the Canada then I would guess that is the issue. The programming is almost always different on vehicles built for use outside of the U.S market.

You need two working remotes in order to be able to use the "add a key" procedure - so you will need to reprogram in your original as it will be erased after the new one is programmed. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video, you need to repeat steps 4-6 for your original remote after the new remote is programmed.

@@kenheidenberger850 Most automotive locksmiths should be able to do it as well. Since you already have an existing key to copy from the Part's Department at Dealership might not actually be more than a locksmith - I would call both. Also just to clarify - in your situation you can use the emergency key out of your existing fob to get the vehicle into programming mode. Its a good idea to have the key cut on your new one but its not necessary for programming.
