Key fob won't work - Reprogramming keyless remote - pre-2007 GM vehicle

The key fob doesn't work. In this video I show you how I replaced the dead battery (CR2032) and how I programmed the key fob so that it will lock and unlock the vehicle again!
How to Program GM Keyless Remotes. I was able to sync the key fob by following a few steps to get the GM vehicle into program mode. The key fob is able to sync and calibrate with the GM vehicle when in program mode. Now the key fob works perfectly!
This method should work on pre-2007 GM vehicles.

I had the same problem and I couldn’t open the doors because my is not the same for the doors, so I tried the step where he pressed the lock and unlocked botton of the key remote at the same time and it worked.

Thank you for posting this. I just bought a 2001 GMC Sierra that had no active fobs, but the prior owner had purchased a few that weren't yet paired to the truck and that he included with it. Your video will save me having to cough up for a dealer to waste my time and do the same thing.

Oh my goodness, thank you for having this online. I'm an old broad trying to figure out all this stuff on my own. The keyfob to my 2003 Silverado quit working and still wouldn't work after putting in a new battery. The one in your video looks EXACTLY like mine. Took me a couple of tries, but it works. Thought mine was broke also. It would lock but not unlock. Pull fob apart to remove rubber buttons from circuit board. With cleaner or pencil eraser clean contacts. My batt. checked good at 3 V. Works perfect now at good distance. Also programmed fob from another '04, Z71, Burb as shown and now I have 2 fobs working. Excellent video Thanks.

great clip but while fob is open take apart and wipe down contact points with alcohol wipes it helps alot also.

Just to let you know you don't have to remove the ring holding your key fob on in order to open up the key fob to replace the battery. Just open it up normally and the two pieces will stay on the ring together. Also you only turn your key on and off two times not three times.

Daninator cheers mate, I have repeatedly tried using the method described for the Mazda car key fob reprogramming and have always failed to reprogram my key fob since replacing the battery. @@TheDaninator nah battery is fresh, turns out that as I removed the key from ignition the little button you press to remove key was staying pressed, and when the key is ignition fob is disabled. I lubed the lock mechanism and now all is working well, the little button pops open everytime I remove key now.

Hello. I am trying to program a brand new replacement key fob for my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. As mentioned the key fob is brand new, with brand new working batteries. I have followed/repeated the entire insert key, hold down unlock button, turn ignition off/on twice, wait for the lock to cycle, press and hold lock/unlock on fob simultaneously. But the lock never cycles therefore the Tahoe never enters programming mode. As a side note, I know that the locks are capable of cycling. Because when I pull and hold the bright light lever while cycling the key twice to program my desired door lock/unlock sequence the locks will actually cycle, the same way that they should when programming the key fobs. Can you please share some troubleshooting steps that might help me diagnose why my Tahoe won't enter programming mode so that I can program my new key fobs? Thank you.

They have power(I used my multimeter on the button battery) but the vehicle is still unresponsive. I've been trying to find a key fob tester kiosk at autozone but the last 2 locations I went to didn't have one there anymore. Usually there for the key fob battery display.

After you press and hold unlock and lock on the first key fob you simply grab the next key fob and press and hold unlock and lock until it does its thing again

Is the truck a 2007 or newer? This process works for the pre-2007 models. If not, be sure the battery is good in the fob. Otherwise, I can't think of anything other than possibly the circuitry in the fob is bad. Hope you're able to get it working soon.

There must be a parasitic draw on the battery somewhere in the electronics.

I would suggest dry cleaning inside the fob electronic spray. I got a fob with signs of water beer or soda driedup inside the fob.

What if it worked before but you got another vehicle with a key fob and you get confused with both .. and now the 1st vehicle key fob not working and I can’t get into vehicle because it was broken into and they messed up my key hole so now the only way to get in is by breaking a window but I don’t want to do that is there a way to reset fob with out breaking a window lol thanks

@@missoli100 , it is what it is. It cost me over $400 to replace the fobs and install new Python system. The fobs I had were obsolete and they didn't service it. I really like the remote start feature. I like to car camp and it's nice to be able to take the chill off without leaving my comfy bed in back.
