How To Program A GMC Sierra Smart Key Remote Fob 2019 - 2021

A step by step video on how to program a smart key remote fob to a 2019 - 2021 GMC Sierra.

1. Using the driver's door, turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). The DIC display will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). Remaining remote key fobs can be relearned during the next steps. The DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.
4. Place the new smart key fob in the transmitter pocket in the center console .
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next remote key fob.
6. Remove the smart key fob from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4-6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

In other models, do the buttons have to face down? Did this procedure in a buick with the buttons facing up and the proximity key nor the buttons work anymore. It starts the car while over the transmitter though

So I have the 2 keys that come with my 2019 Sierra (and get the memory functions for driver 1 and driver 2)...do you know if it is possible to get a 3rd key for a teenager that is getting their license and program it this way (obviously it wouldn't have driver memory)? Like can you do more than 2 keys with this vehicle or does it just stop after 2?

No - these fobs lock to a vehicle once programmed and need to be unlocked by someone with the correct equipment before they can be programmed to a different vehicle.

Hi, I just picked up my 2021 AT4 and lost one key fob….gonna punish myself for eternity, ordered a new fob. I can get the key cut with my second factory fob, does this procedure un program my existing fob forcing me to reprogram the new one and the old one? Also all my doors are keyless entry. All remotes will be erased with this procedure and any you want to keep will need to be re-programmed. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video - you would need to repeat steps 4-6 for your original remote after the new one is programmed.

The smart key is shown in this video but unfortunately the regular fobs for the non-push button start ignition vehicles are not manually programmable.

I have both keys but the one I want for driver one is programmed for driver two. Is there a way to change the driver 2 key fob to driver 1?

You can go through this procedure which will erase the keys and then reprogram them in the order you want. You will need to start with the keys far enough away from the vehicle so they cannot be detected.

it will erase the original fob. The original fobs can normally be re-programmed during the procedure but that won't work if the buttons do not work on the fob

@@deloreshaze did you find it? If you have the bench seat, the very bottom of the middle seat cushion should flip up and reveal a pocket for a fob to sit. Hopefully that helps!

some vehicles only show the messages for a few seconds - try just going off of the time. Also, if you look at the steps in the description box of the video - you will need to repeat steps 4-6 for your original remote after the new one is programmed as the original will be erased.

If you just bought the key fob then its possible it was not unlocked or not unlocked properly. After these fobs are programmed they lock to the vehicle and have to be unlocked or "flashed" before they can be used again.

I would guess that they probably sent you the flip-keys for a non-push button start vehicle. The push button and non-push button flip-keys look identical but they are not interchangeable. If you order different ones try to make sure the listing specially states they are for push start vehicles ( also sometimes called "Passive Entry" )
