Thanks for the great video! I've got a question you guys will probably be able to help with. I'm a builder and I do a lot of climbing in my free time. I don't do any specific training but I'd like to add rings to my routine to improve strength and stability. Just wondering how you would incorporate rings into an already very active lifestyle? I was thinking of doing two full body workouts a week - or should I split my workouts into push/pull? Thanks guys! Keep up the good work.
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, thanks for the question. The rings are a great addition to your training week as you get a lot of bang for your buck, they also fit in nicely with your climbing. I do a bit of bouldering myself and often do some calisthenics at the end of a session when my grip is fried but I still have some gas left in my shoulders so if you have somewhere to hang them when you climb (bar or a tree) that could be an option. If you wanted to do a specific ring workout at another time in the week you have a couple of options as you said, push/pull/total body. My first thought is that you need to balance this with everything else you're doing as your job and climbing will mean your upper body is already getting a decent workout during the week. For that reason if I was you I think I would go for a total body approach but have two different workouts. That way the muscles get hit twice a week which will give me stimulation for adaptation that if you were just doing 1 pull session and 1 push session each week. If you want to work towards a specific move just factor that in to your workouts. Start with the target move and then smash it up on some capacity, general strength building exercises. Hope that helps. Tim

Great videos. Hope to see your numbers grow steadily. I'm a sextagenarian and have been doing moderate weight training and calisthenics for about 4 months, 3 or 4 days weekly. The first 6 weeks were all about being careful and acclimating after 4 years of relative inactivity. Your coaching on form and proper technique are essential learning. Can you do a video or provide feedback on the choices between push/ pull split routines and whole body workouts; how often to train and how often to train core? I'm in sunny Florida so can't join your school but your schoolofcalisthenics.com website is excellent.

Thanks for the message Orlando. It's really cool to hear about your calisthenics training and yes you're on point about integrating slowly into training during the first few weeks and months especially if you have taken a break from training. We have spoken quite a lot about struturing a training week and splits in our Q+A episodes. Check them out here... kzbin.info/aero/PL8Al31CL2V4ZHeg6h6b_7eTaeLLfErkWw We also have them on podcast... itunes.apple.com/na/podcast/school-of-calisthenics-podcast/id1262495483?mt=2 If you have a specific question then let us know and we'll answer it in our next Q + A. you dont need to go that low on the push ups - it can cause shoulder issues in some people and is not worth the risk/reward trade-off. also if you turn the wrists/elbows inwards on the top end you can get a nice pec squeeze. i love these videos guys. rings are deadly and will humble you for certain! keep up the good work.
@gingerbreadboy
@gingerbreadboy 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can go that low. You should have your shoulders retracted/pulled back and down then you can go that low, it's standard push up/chest pressing movement form, in fact it's standard form for pulling movements too.

Hi, no we don't use rings exclusively, we do a lot of bar and hand balancing work too but for building a great upper body physique, the rings might be the best option, they are super cheap and highly effective.
