As a Icelandic person i have to say this was funny, The man explaining this could not even say Eyjafjallajökull correctly. His accent made me think he was Icelandic, until he said "EyjaFjallaJökull" this must be satire

Its funny how this looks like a professional video, but the pronunciation was BUTCHERED. There is no "R" sound at "fjalla", double "L" is like "TL", so "fjatla" in a sense. And "jökull" was the worst part in the video. The "jö" sounds like the beginning of the word "yearning". And the "kull" does not end with a "TL" but with a distinct sound by pressing air around the outer side of your molars. Kinda like imitating a wet lisp. And it sounds more like a "KL" than a "TL", but its not pronounced.

@@j33089a yeah, for the "dch" sound you just position your tongue slightly more to the side of your mouth (for me its the right side).

This is entirely wrong. In IPA, it is [ˈeiːjaˌfjatlaˌjœːkʏtl̥], or like "ay ya fya tla yœ kY tl". The œ is pronounced between 2 vowels: the first vowel in "may" (for some this is a diphthong), but with rounded lips (compare the vowel in "strut" vs the first vowel in "choice") and the e in "bet", also with rounded lips. To get this, try sliding between these 2 vowels and choose something in the middle. The ʏ is pronounced like the i in "bit" but with rounded lips as with above. Emphasis is placed on the "ay", the "fya", and the "jœ". Vowels are also held slightly longer than usual in the ay & jœ.

Double Ls in Iceland are not something most native English speakers are used to pronouncing. To call it a “TL” sound would cause a lot of confusion. It’s a noise you make with your cheek, like a pressure release noise on an air tank (best way I can think of to describe it).

The fact that so many people believe this. Heck I just looked this up for fun to see what would happen. My dad is native to Iceland and both my parents speak fluent Icelandic I can say they butchered it so much that they added extra letters to it. Like I'm used to having my name or other Icelandic words butchered but this is just terrible. Just please don't believe this video. If your planning to go to Iceland almost everything is in English so you'll be fine.

Sorry but it's not the good pronunciation. the tongue must be flattened at the top of the palate touch the tip of the tongue to the front teeth at the top, as if to say " T " but also the back of the tongue in position as if to pronounce "Q" at the same time = which produces a sort of mixture between "T + Q + L" and this sound are written with a double "l" so "ll" in Icelandic.
