We call it the “sure kill”

I thought it was shul-kill, not sckuu-kil I must be unaware of any rules that dictate when h in sch is silent like in school

Unfortunately there are few rules in English that are universal. It isn't a sane language, like Polish or Russian, where, as long as you know the correct pronunciation of every letter, you can correctly read anything in the language. That is absolutely not the case in English, which I think is part of the reason that English is such a hard language for people to learn.
