Learn how to pronounce the difference between the sounds T /t/ and D /d/ in English. I also focus on the Glottal Stop (AKA Glottal T sound) and the Flap/Tap T, which is more commonly used in American and Australian English.
Do be aware that you may hear other variants of T and D across the UK and in other countries. When demonstrating the Flap T, I also showed the transcription for Standard American English but, of course, didn't pronounce it with a full American accent as I'm not American. :)

I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

I think this is the best video on this topic. Many videos tell you to touch the "tip" of your tongue to the alveolar ridge. I kept trying that and it really hindered my speech. Now after watching this video when I use my tongue blade, my speech got really clear and I no longer get stuck while speaking. Thank You, Emma.
@Pronunciationwithemma
@Pronunciationwithemma 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, depending on the accent SOME people use the tip of the tongue, but really, I find the vast majority of speakers (from the UK) use the blade. It's far easier to then give you that "poof" of air that you need for the t :)

Thank you Emma. We recently moved from London to Australia. I’m having such a difficult time with my son’s current teacher, he is 7. She is concerned he has hearing problems, speech and learning difficulties as he’s not pronouncing and sounding words/letters as taught. After watching your videos amongst others he is sounding letters exactly as you. His teacher is mistaking his British accent for a learning disability 😢

Thank you Emma! I was looking for the pronociatiom for "t" sound as i found i have difficulty to pronounce it between t and d and sometimes i pronounce t as "ch" sound. The example you gave on the video exactly the same problem i had - use the top of my tongue to pronounce "t" sound. Once i watch this video i was like OMG i hope i could see your video much earlier. Thanks Emma i always like to watch your youtube channel! Well done 👍👍❤❤❤

Thank you so much, Emma! I'm fluent in English but I still feel embarrassed to speak to native speakers due to my strong ts and ds. I know it shouldn't matter but the fact that you made this so easy to learn makes all of this seem less daunting to me. The fact that I can easily make these previously intimidating sounds now actually make me feel confident about my strong ts and ds. It took 10 mins, wow! Thank you!
