HOW TO GROW CHRISTMAS CACTUS FROM CUTTINGS AT HOME-FAST N EASY-100% SURE RESULT
DAIZZ'S TIP:-Bend and break a Christmas cactus plant's stem at a joint to remove a section containing two to five segments. A joint is where two stem segments meet, and each joint breaks easily. Christmas cactus has long stems with 3/4- to 1-inch-long segments.
Set the stem section on a paper towel in a dry place indoors, and leave it there for one or two days.
Mix equal portions of clean garden sand and a soil less seed-starting medium, blending the ingredients well. Fill almost all of an 8-inch-diameter or larger pot, which has bottom drainage holes, with the mixture, leaving 1 inch between the top of the mixture and the lip of the pot. Add water until the mixture, or potting medium, is damp.
\
Stick the bottom 1/2 to 1 inch of the Christmas cactus' stem section into the center of the pot's potting medium. The stem section's bottom is the end that grew closest to the roots before you removed the stem portion from its parent plant. Press the potting medium around the stem section's base, securing it in place.
Set the pot in indirect, bright light N Mist the stem section with water once each week. Water the potting medium when its top starts to dry out.

Hi, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Somebody may have already answered the question, but...here goes... My C.cactus is producing little rootlets in the air at the 'leaf' joints. Can I air layer it? That is, form a small bag of compost around the joint and rootlets without removing the leaves. I have air layered various other plants, notably blackcurrants,and forsythia. Proud of owner of several baby lemon trees, kindly air layered by one of my bulgarian neighbours using 800g (cleaned) tins filled with just garden soil! I use empty plastic 2 litre bottles, with a big enough hole in base to thread over denuded branch, a bit of a pain to fill with soil. But they work! Advantage is you can see the rootlets!

Hi. Great video. I’m new to succulents. I’ve learned that Christmas cactus have scalloped leaves and that Thanksgiving cactus have pointed leaves like yours. Just curious since you called this video how to propagate a Christmas cactus rather than Thanksgiving cactus. Also I have Christmas cactus cuttings in cactus soil. This was done two months ago and I still don’t have roots and it’s also wilting. Any ideas? It’s in bright but indirect sunlight for 2 to 4 hours every day. I don’t have many bright window options. Thanks.

@stultusstupidorium

around the winter solstace is easiest, but can be "force bloomed" anytime, but is not healthly for plant. whe you want it to bloom put it in a closet, or dark room for at least 18, 20+ hours is better. only allow indirect light for the rest of the light cycle. they bloom in and around christmas, hence the name but only bloom with a small or no light cycle

May be due to over watering ...make sure your soil mix remains little dry to avoid root rot problem....mix 1 table spoon fungicide powder in 500 ml water n add 200-250 ml in one go ... repeat after every 3-5 days ...after 3-4 times your plant will be ok

@kennethstensrud669
@kennethstensrud669 5 жыл бұрын
Go to a aquarium store and buy some sand there. You can then see what the grade of the sand is, choose one that is not too fine. If it looks like it can go through a salt shaker, it is too fine. Play sand is too fine, but builders sand can also be used. Hope you have an idea about what to choose. Or use perlite/ vermiculite instead of sand. I'd recommend a 50/50 mix of peat and sand/perlite/vermiculite for the propagating stage.
