I really appreciate you taking the time to do these vids, I want to mess around with this stuff but I dont have the patience to test them out myself, Reddit and other forumns kind of beat around the bush and nobody knows for sure. We need more experiemental videos with FOLLOWUPs such and this series. Thanks so much.

Another good video! One thing I'd consider is that moss has been grown using the "yogurt method" previously. The gist of it is that blending yogurt with moss let's you paint it on stuff to grow it. So maybe it wasn't the chunks of moss being too small, but rather an uneven distribution? I don't know, I'm not super well versed in these methods of growth.
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
I think you are spot on with this comment! It was very difficult to spread the stuff evenly, had I been able to I bet the results would have been much different 👍

Isn't mold just gonna grow necause of the yogurt?

Nicely done, Will! When do you suppose you'll have Java moss up for sale? Currently 3/15/2023. Thanks!
@AquariumPlantLab Жыл бұрын
Java Moss is difficult for me to keep in stock so it comes around periodically as a special item. Currently I don’t have a realistic estimate on restock but I typically let my newsletter subscribers know first when popular limited items are back in stock so they get first dibs 👍. If you’re interested in subscribing to that you can find it on the site under the menu tab 🌱

I wonder what's the cost of operation? To keep everything running. Like lights water etc..
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I did the math on the lights once. Lighting is not expensive at all because I use LED's. Water usage is negligible. I think the most expensive part is heating the room during winter.
@DJPacoRamirez3 жыл бұрын
@@AquariumPlantLab the temp in the room is 78 degrees? Or do you have it higher?

Awesome results Sir👍👍👍👍 Can you use the smaller shoe boxes and get the same results? Also can you put knitting plastic fabric ( white ones with tiny holes..can't remember name) on floor first then put the java moss on top so it anchored to it for easier removal to tank? Will the moss die back when submerged if grown immersed???
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
Moss does melt back a bit but it grows so fast its pretty hard to notice. Most of the big growers grow moss on metal mesh which is nice for making a moss carpet. I prefer my moss loose so I can attach it to driftwood and such with thread :)
@CrowntailHalfmoon3 жыл бұрын
@@AquariumPlantLab Kool Thx for reply. I'm asking about the mesh as it would be easier for me to move it from tank to tank as a spawning medium....
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
For sure!! Having moss attached to mesh would be perfect for that purpose!

Excellent tips! Can i grow java or any other kind of mosses on soil? I heard they have no root system. will they get more or enough nutrients? it looks fascinating to me that they grow on plain rocks on land but I dont know how they get nutrients there. will spraying just water on them be enough or i need to add some fertilizers to the water?
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
Moss will definitely grow on soil. For the best results I would also spray them with some nutrients. While moss may grow on inert substrate with little nutrients it definitely needs nutrients to grow well. In nature, moss gets lots of nutrients from splashing, rain, bugs, dust, etc.

hey, great video. i myself tried growing some emersed setup(with lid) for my bucephalandra and anubias, i was wondering about temperature in the tank, because mine is up to 35° C in the noon, sometimes 47° C, is that okay for the plant? the only way to cool down the tank is to keep lid open, but then i lose all the humidity. any suggestion ? many thanks
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
that's definitely getting hot. I would try to get the tubs down to ~26 C. You could try lifting the light up higher. If it is right by the lid your tubs will get hot.

Good afternoon. Why don 't you additionally use natural light from the window ?
@AquariumPlantLab3 жыл бұрын
You could! I like to keep all of my plants under completely controlled conditions. Natural light can work, just need to be careful not to over heat or scorch the plants. I would try a window that doesn't get much if any direct sun.
