@Chronically.sarahdayton

I’ve done a ton of sphag moss experiments the last year or so and agree. Having the right moisture level is a science in itself, but it’s absolutely necessary to not have any water at the bottom of the countainer and to dump it out whenever there is because rot *will* happen and once there’s one cutting that starts to rot, it’s will spread to all of the cuttings, especially if there is excess water. I’m 99% sure that’s what caused the cuttings in the moss to die. They were also were buried on top of each other and they needed to be sitting up right with the leaves being able to get light. Even if he did agitate it every few days or once a week, it wouldn’t have been enough light for the ones at the bottom, plus the rot would have spread to the leaves and before you know it, bam they’re all dead. I did a similar thing a few months ago with pothos cuttings and my mom and I have now mastered propagation in sphag moss. We use a big clear container with a clear lid, cover the bottom with 2-3inches of moss, fill the container up with enough water and a very small amount of liquid fertilizer, let the moss soak up the water/fertilizer for half an hour, dump out the excess water, then add the cuttings and put the lid on it. We drilled 3 small holes in the lid. We check it every few days and open the container to allow fresh air in for about an hour, add and strain out water if needed, and repeat. We get very good results this way (and have for about 6 months now after doing a dozen experiments over the past year as we opened our own small nursery) and we don’t need to use any artificial lighting either. We have about 8 of these containers at all times and we grow pothos, monstera adansonaii, syngoniums, pilea, and use it for sick plants as well. Example, we go from 10 “butterfly” cuttings of string of hearts to a packed container (you can’t even see the moss anymore), then pot it, moss and all, in a 3 inch pot in just 4-5 weeks. Harli G uses a similar method. We’ve also saved a lot of plants from root rot and we’re able to nurse them back to health by using this method. I hope this helps someone out there!

You should try using Keiki paste on the nodes if you want to keep the length of the plant or you do not want to chop it up. It's basically a mix of growth hormones that triggers cell cloning/division suspended in medium like lanolin or petroleum jelly so the paste would not get washed off when watering your plants. Originally developed for orchids but I've experimented it on a lot of my plants because I do not like the look of bald spots on my trailing and climbing type plants. It's worked so far for most.

why are the leaves turning black and yellow?
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact reason but many times the new growth can sorta push thr old leaves off. The original leaf is not really needed once it starts growing
