Maybe unnecessary but being that my boat is stored outside in the winter I like to hit the grease fittings at the end of the boating season, I feel this may push out any moisture from the boating season and prevent freezing, great video Michael 👍😁

Hi Mike, great videos. So easy to follow. I was wondering if you have any info on what might be clogging where the water comes out of while running. I have something clogging port side water exhaust hole. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Any ideas? Thanks again

Thanks for watching and sharing this feedback, much appreciated. That’s interesting, those exhaust ports are difficult to clog since the water pressure being exhausted out as the engine is running is very strong and pushes debris out. However, we stored our boat for the winter and come spring time, we came back to service the bellows. We removed the outdrive and bellows and found a significant amount of insulation inside our exhaust. A family of mice got pretty creative and pushed insulation through those small exhaust ports and created a cozy home. If we didn’t remove all of the insulation during our bellows replacement project, that would’ve caused havoc with the system. Could’ve led to all kinds of issues, which we were not interested in dealing with during that moment. Have you inspected close enough to see what exactly is clogging the ports… is it mud, dirt, weeds…? Keep us posted.

@@tedmiller1745 Thanks for the update. It’s possible that the bearing is fully greased or the grease port is clogged. Have you verified that a newly designed sealed bearing is not installed?

Hi Mike, great video. Have a question about loose/play in the steering on those engines. Mine is a 4.3 but have some play/slop that I can’t figure out why/where to fix. New cable and rack, new cable collar (there is some catching in that collar) to yoke in power steering. Guessing gimbal collar is worn?, just my best guess at this point. Thanks for watching, any update? We would inspect underneath and behind steering wheel to ensure nothing is interfering with the movement of steering wheel and linkage. If all looks good, we would recommend inspecting the larger bolt and shaft rod linkage located inside inboard engine compartment. You may need to spend 20-30 minutes or so loosening the large shaft jam-nut and adjusting and tightening the steering linkage. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for responding, I am taking apart the transom end today, removing the cable and valve rod in the actuator to see if there is some wear, corrosion, or a spring broken in there. I read that valve rod is suppose to slip a little when moving left center or right to get fluid in there from the PS pump but mine is like jammed up and feels like metal on metal for a moment then that valve rod/cable slips quickly in the direction I’m turning. Will update tonight/tomorrow.

Hi Mike- Update- took the steering cable out and the cylinder in which that slides through (ensure to drain PS fluid as that cylinder is where it flows for PS assist). There is a spring and 4 shims in there. Cylinder and rods didn’t appear to have any corrosion or build up. Cleaned everything really well with break cleaner and used shotgun brass and metal bristle drill brushes… regreased with marine grease and put back together. Not “catching” anymore, smooth and as easy to turn wheel with 1 finger. No real explanation as to why, just cleaned and greased. But good as new.
