I feel like you're the only content creator that isn't gatekeeping by showing us exactly how to become competitive and win in important tournaments. I appreciate this video and your research very much.

I think this is a problematic mindset. There are a lot of great players making great content and are providing insight into their strategies and gameplay mechanics (maybe more than ever). I think that ultimately it’s up to players to be as resourceful as possible in developing their own methodologies to becoming a better player. There’s no cookie cutter video that will make anyone a better player, repetition and familiarization with the game and how the best players play is what I think will lead new players to success much faster. While some players certainly gatekeep their pertinent strategies for picking decks, there is a load of info out there for new players entering the space.

Players do 2 hour long podcasts about how to play the decks they’re successful with. Azul just dropped like 10 full videos on cooked decklists as a better starting spot than Japan lists 3 weeks before EUIC. You’re just only watching a sexy few people

Content like this is why Omnipoke remains atop when it comes to welcoming new players to the game. This is extremely informative, and I've learned a few things today that I didn't know after nearly 10 years of play. Thank you guys 👏

Meta as a term is the prefix from greek, meaning 'above' or 'superordinate to'. Same as in metatextual, metanarrative, etc. Metagame is a term coined to reflect that kind of exact meaning: the game that arises as a byproduct of EXAMINING a game, from above, or in other words the game theory ABOUT playing a different game. Most effective tactic available is a backronym of sorts, a phrase that does not one-to-one connect with the actual original creation of the word metagame from that prefix. (unless claiming it as an acronym was an engagement bait tactic, in which case, well played)
@OmniPoke

Metagaming as a process is definitely examining game theory within a game yoinking this prefix and repurposing it may be a butchering of the language but it’s a great way to illustrate the point quickly to people who’ve no clue what tcgs nerds yap on about!

META was not an acronym, and it always has been short for metagaming. However, because English its stupid, it has been retroactively made to fit that cringe ass acronym. Made me shed a tear hear Omnipoke say it lol.
@yikesmcgee1283
@yikesmcgee1283 10 ай бұрын
I didn’t think it was an acronym either. My understanding was The metagame is the game being played outside the game. Popular decks, techs for matchups etc are the metagame. The rules and plays when your sitting down is the actual game.
@Invinciproductions
@Invinciproductions 10 ай бұрын
I cannot confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt, but from early Magic days, meta of course evolved from the prefix meta, such as metaphysical. The game outside of the game itself.

@@Invinciproductions close, it’s from metagaming. The concept of metagaming has existed before Magic, it’s the game within the game

@@OmniPoke yeah it's a very helpful video, thanks Joe! I do like the lax, but hate having a terrible tina matchup. Leaning towards an arc/pile as they are fairly easy to pilot, which helps as I've only been playing the game since last august. Looking forward to trying out great tusk as well

Cards which you may choose to play which don’t fit into your decks general strategy but are within your list with certain matchups in mind to improve your chances of winning against it For example evolving decks like charizard almost always need to tech manaphy because without it, radiant greninja could ruin their early setup in a number of popular decks!
@MartysLive

@@OmniPoke I think that makes sense, is that like having cards in your deck that doesn't fit your type or theme etc. Like having mimikyu to protect against V's and ex's even if you don't run a psychic deck?

You'll probably spend a lot of money opening packs to get the pieces by chance, you probably should just order the cards you need online. The only problem is if you need them fast since you need to consider the shipping times.
