Really enjoyed this! I'm an Adult Male, 6'1'' 200 lbs, what Bike is good to start on ? I'm getting all KINDS of information. Many are telling me a 250 and others say a 125 up to a 450 can all be fine as long as you have throttle control. I have been riding snowmobiles for 20 plus years and I ride an 850 now but it's no different really than a 600 as along as you understand how to control the power, Thanks!
@MotocrossHideout Жыл бұрын
Hey Dean, thanks for watching - glad you liked it! Any of those are possible to start on, but riding a dirt bike off-road is quite a bit different than any sled based on my experience. If you want something that's easy to learn on, then I recommend a 250cc air-cooled trail bike or similar (depending on your budget). The 250 or 450 enduro/mx bikes are fun, but the snappy power and stiff suspension make it more exhausting and harder to control when you're just starting out - especially at low speeds or tight trails. Something like an XR250, DRZ250, TTR250, or KLX300R are easy to ride and maintain. What do you think, Dean?
@deang4438 Жыл бұрын
@@MotocrossHideout Really appreciate the reply back, thanks! I have looked at so many ideas and options. I do know that I will not be riding on the road at all. A good friend of mine recommended a DRZ 650 which I looked at and right away I ruled that out at 366 lbs. I will be looking at new, I will look at the models you mention, just don't want to get something that I will out grow fast in be stuck trying to sell it.
@MotocrossHideout Жыл бұрын
For sure. Yes, the DR650 would not be a good off-road bike if you're not riding on the road due to its weight. I totally understand that you don't want to outgrow it quickly, but if you were a close friend I'd still recommend something that's easy to ride. I continually hear from my students and audience that started out with "too much bike" thinking they could "grow into it" if they just have good throttle control... In reality, it just slows down your learning curve if you want to become a confident trail rider. Here's my article on the best dirt bikes for tall riders: motocrosshideout.com/best-dirt-bike-for-tall-riders/ Also, don't be afraid to by a slightly used model for your first bike. Trail bikes are generally easier to sell because they hold their value better. A new bike is going to get scratched up anyway in the woods or if you tip it over :)
@deang4438 Жыл бұрын
@@MotocrossHideout Thanks for all of the information and sending the article for tall riders, I will read that now. As for used Bikes what I'm finding is they're asking as much if not more for a used Bike (2 to 3 years old) than a new bike. I know how people ride and for the same price or a little more I would rather have piece of mind buying new, knowing the Bike has not been abused, crashed, bent frame etc... I know how people ride Toys and how they abuse them.

Nice, I've been thinking about trading in my quad for a bike. I was looking at the crf300l rally for trail riding but i heard the suspension is soft. What else would you recommend? I'm 5'10" and 300lb
@MotocrossHideout4 ай бұрын
At 300lbs any dirt bike is going to be soft. For slow trail riding under 15 mph you might be okay, but you're start bottoming out once you push the pace off-road. If you don't need a street legal bike, I'd stay away from dual sport bikes because they're heavier and harder to handle on tight or slower trails. Something like the CRF250F or KLX300R would be great to start on. Trail riding a bike is quite a bit different than riding a quad. Let us know what you end up with!

Okay, gotcha! Well, if you were a close friend, I'd have a hard time recommending those motocross bikes to start out on (especially since it's been so long for you on a pit bike) for a number of reasons... Safety being #1. Starting out in an open space is a great plan. Race bikes are just harder to control and learn on because they have snappy power and stiff suspension, which make it hard to control at low speeds and more exhausting. Here's a video on some of the best beginner bikes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5ubemqui6unrc0 I also just started a 30-day/30-video Beginner series on how to get into dirt biking safely without breaking the bank. With that said, if you end up getting a 250 motocross bike, all the recent models are good. If you're buying used, just look for the cleanest one that was properly maintained. Does that make sense, Shaun!

@MotocrossHideout For me personally I like using the back brake as a newbie bc if you use the front you can jerk forward and fly off

Not to sound rude but not all bikes have same gear layout my bike is all up
@MotocrossHideout8 ай бұрын
Not rude :) I just showed that layout because most manual clutch dirt bikes have first gear down. Thanks for watching and sharing!

wait are you teaching people to shift without the clutch too WTF is wrong with yall these days you trying to teach people to destroy their gears?
@MotocrossHideout Жыл бұрын
What makes you say that shifting without clutch will destroy the gears, Pete?

@@MotocrossHideout spinning gears trying to grab non spinning gears THATS WHAT.

@@MotocrossHideout the issue is mechanics and people that rebuild every year will tel you its fine because they either want to replace your gears or wish everyone would rebuild there bike every spring. truth is most people dont do that so telling them to do something that unless they rebuild once a year will eventually cause issues is dumb in my eyes. plus we all know that guy who chipped off some gears and either a destroyed it or b never noticed it until rebuild time. wanna know how this happens? SHIFTING WITHOUT A CLUTCH.
@petejones6827 Жыл бұрын
you know when a clutch is not needed when you have a centrifugal clutch if its better to not clutch then all bikes would be clutchless its not NEEDED but truth is you get better control and its better because YOU get to decide when to engage the clutch.
@MotocrossHideout Жыл бұрын
Yes, you definitely have more control with the clutch, but I've been riding for over 20 years with quite a few different bikes and haven't had to rebuild a transmission yet. Maybe I'm the only one though... Btw, here's how a constant mesh transmission works (all the gears are spinning): kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWnbn3x8m5mcmpY&ab_channel=TecknoMechanics
