In today's video we are going to go over how to properly sticker and band a stack of lumber. we talk about our rule of thumb that we use and how those changes for different species of wood. We also show off the strapping tool that we use for banding all of our stacks of lumber as well as the strapping material and buckles. we get all of our banding supplies off of amazon currently. we also show you how our banding tool works and how you can go back and retention a stack unlike metal or plastic bands.
Thank you for watching and if you have any questions leave them in the comment section below.
We want to give a huge shoutout to Solomon, he helps us so much editing some of the videos. Be sure to check out his channels.

I totally agree with banding, thank you very much, I don't sticker as many as you, I probably will start, because you're much better sawyer than me.

Good video Eric, one question what do you prefer for stickers ? Do you use the same species of stickers as wood you are banding.

I use pine or Poplar for all woods or the stickers cut from the log I'm sawing . We 're reusing all our Kiln dried stickers when we can.

When i started kiln drying my lumber I check with a lumber mill that kiln there lumber. We have a solar kiln that will hold 500 BF and they said to put a lot of weight on it. We use two concrete stop bumper on top of the stack. We haven't had any trouble with our White Oak or Walnut. We use 1" by 2" sticker on our lumber. When use banders do you retighten it as the lumber dry's it will shrink the band will be come lose. that will let the lumber move out of shape.

Great video. How thick do you cut your boards? I have some red and white oak I want to make sure they don't shrink to much to plane to 3/4". Thanks
@BeardedLumber
@BeardedLumber 9 күн бұрын
@johngalt5504 on Oak, I recommend 5/4 to be sure to get two-sided clear at 3/4"

Oak can be tricky, young trees with alot of sapwood will move alot, may need 5 or 6 quarter. Old growth can be pretty stable, I do alot of woodworking and any decent oak logs I've cut I can easily get 3/4 finished by cutting it 1 1/8 on the grade hardwood scale. White oak can be a little more tricky, like Eric said, 5/4, especially on your wider boards would be better.

We have lost our business in Oregon that sharpens blades, I don't saw enough to warrant getting a 250 sharpener, have you ever tried the carbide blades that Wood mizer offers?

No, I use green same log stickers all the time for customers. Lumber that's going home with them . I'll use my kiln dried stickers if I'm going to dry the lumber and collect the dried stickers
