If tables tell me when they sit down they want to split the cheque I can do it, it's still a pain in the ass if it's a lot of splits but if a table of 10 ask me to split it 10 ways after a full dinner service, I'm going to make them suffer, have them come back to the till and line up and one at a time I'll split their items. They'll be there for at least 20 minutes.

This is the way I done it with a large group we just line up tell them what we had then they check everything was paid for at the end of the queue . Easy.

Same. If known ahead of time then it's easier. Not afterwards and people change seating too.

@RoyalDoyle845 it's also courtesy to inform the server of splitting the check preferably BEFORE we take the order. Ensures that the checks are correct for each person. Not difficult to do and sure helps everyone in the long run.

@@0011peace if someone doesn't tip, then they are not a great person. Someone can not be a great person and be by themselves or part of a table of 10. It actually averages out a bit, since one not good person would not completely destroy your income for the table

I understand that splitting the table into 10 checks is a pain but how is it different than 10 individual tables? If I'm here with 9 other people, they aren't necessarily my friends. we can just be work colleagues. Every time I've gone out with colleagues, someone always suggests just splitting the bill evenly, even if I've only ordered something that costs half as much or less as anyone else.

In my country splitting a check is the rule, not the exeption. The behaviour of the waiter would be considered rude and unprofessional.
@susannpatton28934 ай бұрын
Some places only allow for a certain number of splits on a table. It isn't hard to use the calculator on the phone that everyone has to see what their individual share is and just divi up. Paying by card, you can hit up the ATM and get the cash to whomever pays the check. Easy peasy and what me and my friends do. Why make extra work for the server?

@@richardfoster5298 no, I work in care not hospitality. However splitting checks is apparently also a cultural thing, no waiter in Austria would bat an eye at that, especially because the tip tends to be larger

@0011peace4 ай бұрын
25% tip is usuary and talking advantage. Tipping should be capped at 10% anymore is too much and it always should optiona. Tipping slows owners to artificially keep wages low
