How to Prune, Fertilize and Care for your Drift Rose!

In this video, we talk about how to prune and fertilize a drift rose. Drift roses are a full sun plant and can tolerate part sun. With part sun, you may see less blooms on your rose and it may be more susceptible to pests and disease, but it can be done successfully with a little more care and maintenance. They are considered a groundcover rose and will grow and spread very quickly. They do not require any deadheading and are considered to be a self cleaning rose. In early spring when new growth begins to emerge, it is recommended that you cut it back to about 6"-8". Don't worry, it will fill out before you know it! Apply a slow release fertilizer, such as Espoma Rose Tone, according to package instructions. After their initial bloom, I like to shape mine and clean up under the rose canopy, as I show you in the video. I also add some fresh compost and worm castings to the soil to give it that extra boost and ensure that the rose has enough nutrients to get us through the hot summer months. I also like to add a bloom booster periodically through the season. Once into late summer and fall, it is recommended to stop fertilizing as the rose will be going into dormancy for the winter months. I have 11 drift roses in my garden and I can't get enough of them! They are so beautiful and will add lots of color and interest to your garden! I hope this video provides you will helpful information! Thank you for the video! I have two Red Drift Rose bushes and they were small when I moved in almost two years ago but now they are overgrown shrubs.
