Those panicles are hardy and tough; I HAD to move a Pinky Winky late last July, wrong time, too hot, etc….. I kept it shaded with an umbrella, gave it plenty of water and hoped for the best! It’s still a little early for me to prune my hydrangeas in northwest Michigan, zone 5/6,: but I’ve snipped a few stems from that shrub and they are pliable and green! Looking forward to its performance this summer, in a much better location! Thanks for all your pruning tips!

Thanks for this very informative video! I have several new Bobo panicle hydrangeas that were planted last year. The blooms covered the entire plant. They currently have more spindly branches than pencil sized. Do you still remove all the thinner branches even if this will leave 3-5 branches?

This is a great video. If you have small branches growing off the main stem down lower on younger hydrangeas, do you remove them so the blooms are more at the top?

If they are small then yes, but not to stop blooms. Spindly growth won’t support the big blooms

I have a panicle hydrangea that was at our home when we moved in a couple years ago - I'm pretty sure it's a limelight. At the moment it has about 4-5 very thick canes (think around 2+ inches thick) and it's about 4-5 feet tall. I want to hard prune to closer to 3ft, but if I do, the really old growth doesn't seem to have any nodes to cut to. Do I still just go for it?
@growformegardening9 ай бұрын
ooh. I feel like I would test it. Maybe prune one of the major branches this season and see how it reacts?
@autumnfairy85439 ай бұрын
Question for you! I have a ton of Sprinter boxwoods in front of my house which unfortunately got attacked by spider mites. I think they're a goner because a couple of them have been dying back. My question is, if I were to get rid of them, can I plant other boxwoods, maybe Winter Gems, in the same spots? Or is that a bad idea? These sprinters were a large investment 5 years ago so it's a shame they're done for. But I don't want to invest in more boxwoods if there's a chance they're going to be affected by mites too!
@growformegardening9 ай бұрын
oooh that's a really hard question. Personally I think I would look at other options. If mites are happening in your area that badly history is bound to repeat itself.
