no pvc bushings on those metal emt connectors going into panels? Also wire lube is a must on those long pulls

Just for future reference, wire lube helps a lot, a lot let stress on the machine and makes it getting the wire through the bends much easier

This entire activity is wrong in too many ways. It starts with the working in a live 400AMP panel. They make these neat pieces of equipment called GENERATORS. SAFETY FIRST. This is not how to pull cable.

I wish my old boss had a winch. We did it by hand with dishwashing liquid, 16 mm2 single phase mains to 8 townhouse/units furthest 2 were about 90 metres away. What made me cry was that they put 90 degree sweeps at the end.

Watched a crew run wires for an X-ray machine . The conduit was outside and about 60' long. They hard problems for some reasons and ended up using their pickup for strength. Was surprised they didn't pull conduit off building. They had nice audience for this comical effort.

Not sure if you did but steel 90° bends are a good idea on pulls this long. Also don't crowd yourself with your spools keeping them back gives you room to work.

Perhaps my eyes, but the main breaker looks off for the pull.
@anthonys5153
@anthonys5153 3 ай бұрын
The wires feeding that main breaker are still live, just the bus was off… should’ve pulled off the meter, used wire pulling lube, a bushing or insulated throat connector, an actual wire jacks stands with equipment holding a pulling shiv/wheel instead of hoisting those reels overhead… and too many other things to list. Lucky to get wire pulled without a catastrophe

I don't think that conduit is rated for that much wire. That's a really tight fit.
@TodaysTask
@TodaysTask 2 жыл бұрын
I know, it looks tight. We used the SouthWire app to configure our voltage drop, ground and conductor size and even conduit size. That app is amazing.
@brandoncole6358
@brandoncole6358 Жыл бұрын
Remember u also have to size for length and degree of bends when calculating pipe size. I don't know if the south wire app shows it but some of the apps I think the greenlee one will show a theoretical pulling force required and when u are at risk of binding in a certain size pipe. It's generally a good idea to not be at the limits of the pipe size. Also on long runs sometimes it's better to make all the 90s in a run out of rigid with changeovers as the rope and jetline can cut grooves in a PVC 90. If u have another pull I recommend having reel jacks or a piece of pipe instead of that chain that was actually really dangerous and u have a 1000# floating over you. If that had landed square on his calf he could have had a serious injury, torn ligaments, etc.

3x350 kCMIL and a ground should have been in 2 1/2" conduit of you stubbed up schedule 80 at the other end. You suck in a jet line and pull in a 1/4" rope or some mule tape. Ust the small rope to pull in the big rope. You needed a plastic bushing on the conduit you were feeding into. You should have also used some wire lube. Other than that, you got er done.

Feeding with the reels close to the conduit is a terrible idea. You need room to pull off some slack. Need a plastic bushing on connector at the panel, I bet you scratched the hell out of your feeders. The electrician on the radio running the tugger should have told you what to do. Sounds like you might have offended him though so he decided to watch you struggle.
