This is perfectly right. It's very important to let our customers undertand the rationale as to why we need more time. I think we must be transparent and honest to our customer as to what we're doing in our end and should be there's a human interventions between you and the customer. For example; I appreciate your patience. Please allow within 2-3 minutes to complete the request for you. This is very simple and if you need more time. You can say like this ; Thank you for waiting. I understand your time is important however I may need another 2-3 minutes to fully process the request.If you'd honestly stay connected, rest assured we can get this done to the soonest time.

And that is correct! During the course of my training the trainers are always emphasizing to use positive phraseology instead of using "i will transfer you" use i'll connect you" coz using the word transfer is like abandoning the customer on the line!
