Very glad I bumped into your channel! I was so busy working all the money earnings years that I never really had time to do very much fishing and what I did was all salt water mainly casting nets in Florida. In my defense I just got off work at 6 AM and worked all night here in Central Alabama and picked up a like new rod and reel for $75 off craigslist that met your basic criteria and maybe even a little bit better than the bottom end starter. I felt very confident and came home with some Trilene fishing line that the seller gave me. So I’ve found this video again, saved in a folder, and couldn’t help myself but want to put some line on the spool. watched your video three times intently, made the knots, and remembered to flip the bail first. I was pretty damn proud of myself until I realized I forgot to thread the line through the pole! I just laughed and was better tying the knots the second time. Now I know where the name of the channel came from.

Great video, pretty much the same way I do it. I like to spray a little line conditioner on the two fingers pinching the line as I'm filling the spool though, gives it a nice even coating and the line doesn't get nearly as much friction heat.

great video!! So my father taught me how to fish and never do I remember him showing me this. Now at 54, an old dog did learn a new trick LOL. Memory can be bad when there is to much and in this case if the line keeps it's memory to the spool that it came off of. That spool is much larger than the reel's spool and you want the line to be conformed to the smaller spool on the reel to prevent fly-off. I only treated the line once with the KVD Line & Lure. I tried to treat it again towards the end but the line was too far gone. I am still amazed at the results.

Tips: 1- you can wear a cloth glove in your rod-holding hand in this case right hand instead of having the line burning through your flesh. 2- It really helps when I submerge the main line reel in a bucket full of fresh water while filling in the spinning reel. The fresh water would create a little bit of resistance that helps my line get reeled tighter. Thanks for the lovely video and the brilliant background.

I don't see why not. It would be a little harder to cast but that's what I would use around docks and heavy cover.

I too am still confused. Stick with me for a minute. You're standing there spooling the line on. The reel is spinning counter-clockwise (if you're looking at the reel from the back), and the line is coming off the spool counter-clockwise. That's all well and good, but if your reel is spinning one way, the line is actually coming onto the reel the other way. If your reel is spinning counter-clockwise, your line is coming on clockwise, which is the opposite direction it's coming off the spool. Am I missing something here?

Love seeing a new video man! Looking forward to seeing the office soon. Quick question, I have a 4 acre pond that I've been stocking with big bass out of other places for years. It has a really good ecosystem and population. Water temp is 90' the last few days and using a cheap eagle fishfinder I've found what seems to be huge schools of different size bass by almost every piece of cover in the pond. They seem to be suspended about 2 feet off the bottom in 10 to 11 feet of water.

I would imagine that there is and it probably depends on the pound test of the line. I just don't rush it.

Awesome you should come here next spring we have lots of night time tournaments here and since the elite series was here its alot harder catch it has had to much pressure the past years and its showing big time now. Its worth the trip though as long as you know someone to show you where to go. I promise, especially when you can run across some 6 and 7 pounders, if you ever make the trip hit me up, your missing out.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful for a newbie like me. I just loaded line for the first time on my two fishing rods/reels. I thought it went well but then I realized that the line is very loose on the spool of the reel. I am not sure what I should have done to make sure it wound tight on the spool. Is there a way to keep more tension somehow? And I am not sure what to do now that it is already on the reel. Is there a way to tighten it up? Or do I need to scrap it and start over? Thanks

An easy way to tell if you have the spool sitting the right way is to pull the line. The spool should spin the same way that the reel turns.
