I can say that this worked for me. I hit the brake, started the car. I pressed the unlock button and shifted to neutral for four seconds. Then I heard the gear shift and I pushed the car where it needed to be. It was a 2011 740i. I appreciate your video dude.

I have a 2008 BMW 550i and follow your instructions to the tee several times and it does. It work. When pushing the start button the car does not start. The lights flash on the dashboard and they toggle on/off with each push of the start button. I cannot get it into neutral. So lame. Now I’m stuck. This will just magically start some other day.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re understanding that models do vary with this process, .ie F20 3 series. Have you confirmed that your starter engages? That’s what’s highlighted as the key component that must work.

Try it without pressing the brake. The idea is to “actuate” the starter if your engine can’t turn over.

I had this problem w 07 530i, dead, hazards came on nothing else. 40 min of searching found best info. Popped the case off the shifter underneath at top right there is a release which allowed me to shift without any power. May not be for all and electric shifter May very but easy to do very difficult to find info. I figured I’d share

I was in line at cosco to get gas but just as i got to the front of the line i ran out of gas thanks for your in put on getting it into n so it rolls. I could not figer it out until i got a gas can, put in some gas then it started right off. It's a bmw Z4

I don’t own an F30, but generic codes like these from off the shelf readers will have you “repair hunting” on any chassis. Depending on your confidence level, my suggestion is use ISTA+, Bimmerlink (one-time fee app) with a Bluetooth module - I use VeePeak *amzn.to/3h0JWNH - bootmod3, or iCarly (subscription-based app) to name a few. These codes pinpoints specific modules, banks, parts, etc. Otherwise, do more research on the generic “P” codes and take a look through F30 forums to see what they’ve done.

This method for when the car will not start but has power and can crank. I don't know if the engine has to be actively turning over or will work in case of a bad starter. You do have to go through the motion of trying to start. Everybody with this situation should know where to use 5mm hex to manually disengage the neutral under the car in case of completely dead battery etc.

2018 M5 this only works while car is running. brake and hold the gear shifter in neutral for 5 seconds and release open door and push or let the car roll. did not work when engine not running

For the F90 and also F10 M5’s it wouldn’t, you have to go underneath the car and flick it into neutral manually if the car doesn’t start

Hi I recently bought a 2012 bmw 750I and it won’t go in to park at all. It says “Park position "P" not selected. Vehicle may roll. It is not possible to lock vehicle from outside.” Any ideas how I can put it in park? Ever other gear works. I can turn it on go in drive and reverse just fine I just have to leave it in Neutral and the park break and just be fine but I would like to be able to put it in park and not have to worry about it

This will not work if the engine doesn’t start , simply pressing the start button putting the car in accessory mode does absolutely nothing, it will only work if the engine starts.

From my Navy days working on F/A-18s, exact sequences are imperative because people can be seriously injured or worse due to mistakenly touching/hitting switches. You know…for bombs. In other words, it’s probably a bit more involved for safety reasons and safety almost always creates a level of inconvenience . Even if that’s not the case, I respect the thought process of it.
