Thanks Jay, great vid. I used a bamboo skewer to reset the pin because my screwdriver was too wide. I noticed the old gear had grease on it. Do I need to add grease?

I think I remember the black gear having some. Adding some shouldn't hurt as long as the grease is ok with plastic gears.

Is the process similar with a laserjet 600 series?
@JayGroh2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I never replaced one on a 600 series. Sorry.

@@JayGroh no problem. I'll find out tomorrow. I'll be sure to update

I can confirm it does not work on the 600 series. Gotta do it the hard way

That sucks. I hate it when I have to completely tear into a printer to replace something.

Jay, your help is great. My printout diagnostic sheet says 50.1 fuser error, 68l8 permanent storage error.

I replaced the fuser, the gear, and I still hear a knocking. Now what do I replace?
@JayGroh7 жыл бұрын
If its still coming from the same area, and its a grinding noise, and all you replaced was the black gear you may need to replace the whole swing plate. Its rare that you need to replace the whole thing but it happens. I still have not had to replace a whole swing plate yet and I doubt I ever will since where I work we have pretty much got rid of all of the 4250's in service. If its making a different sound or its still grinding after you replaced the whole swing plate then you may have a different issue. Your question might be better asked on HP's forums for more help. If its a loud knock then I really dont know what it would be. If its a clicking sound and you are getting paper jams it could be the solenoid which I have a video on how to fix.

I have a 4200 not a 4250. Anyway, there was no need to replace the entire gear unit as it was not damaged, nor was the black gear, and no shavings or droppings present. May have to take it in to fix. Could I have gotten a bad fuser?
@duanek60514 жыл бұрын
You need to replace the whole assy as the white gear in the assy he didnt use is bad. it gets drive from the main drive of the printer. It is a much more involved repair. so if you can get away with the the black gear, spacer and fuser assy then its better but the assy does need done eventually. I have to do one today. The screws can be siezed to the frame and can strip if you are not careful in breaking them loose.

You most certainly will have to replace more than the black gear. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security. I've come across one 4350 and one M4345 that both needed the entire assembly replaced in the past two weeks.
@JayGroh7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes yes the whole assembly would need replaced. You can tell when you take out black gear if the white one is worn out too much. The white gear is more durable than the black. Mostly due to the black gear having to interact with the fuser. Out of all the ones I've worked on I've only replaced the whole assembly 2 times that I can remember. Both with completely missing teeth on the white gear. Never had to refix one either since they last a long time in a heavy use environment. I doubt I will be fixing any more where I work since we are replacing them with new printers anyway.

other gear will ware 2 ...not a good solution, just temporary..... the other gear will wear faster...
@JayGroh7 жыл бұрын
Actually out of all the repairs I've done the black gear is what wears down the most. The white gear is still good. I've only had to completely replace the swing plate in 2 printers. If you don't see white dust your fine.
