Let me start by saying that I truly appreciate you sharing your skill, tips, and tricks. Whenever I have a question or want to know how to do something on my cups I dont even bother with google I go straight to your social media lol because I can usually find my answer. Ok so back to my reason for this comment... I recently had a 5 cup order cancelled and I was thinking there had to be easier way for me to do it since I do most of my work out in the garage (except for the drying and curing) and it's been freezing cold out so my hands were popsicles which made it even more tedious. So I thought what if I did the same thing but instead of the torch I use hot water to soften the epoxy and it worked like magic and hands weren't frozen stiff!! Some people may already know that this works really well but I thought I'd share for those of us who hate to strip cups. Heres what I did>>>>>>>> I put the cup in pretty hot water so you should use rubber gloves... let it soak for a minute or 2, then I took my razor and broke the seal all around the rim, cut length wise down the cup and on the bottom, let it soak another minute or so, and then took my razor to help begin to lift the epoxy up and then I used my fingers to peel it off...it comes off in nice big chunks where you cut it and the glitter and glue also came off with it and what little bit of glitter that was left on the cup came right off with a quick rinse. The paint stayed on of course (i just paint over it) but the hard annoying part was done in about 5 min. Hope this helps

This is so helpful because sometimes I end up making a cup and I don’t like it and want to start over. This is a quick way to do it without losing any money or too much material!

Thank you so much for showcasing this method I was able to strip my cup in a matter of minutes!!! It literally peels off like you've said and shown in this video and I had 4-5 layers of epoxy that just came off like butter. I've used the paper towel with foil and acetone method but that didn't work too well for me. As horrible as it is to already have to strip a cup, you've turned my struggles around for me. Thank you so much!!!
@missylane48825 жыл бұрын
I remove epoxy by wrapping paper towels around the cup and saturating it with acetone, then wrap aluminum foil around it. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. All the paint, epoxy and vinyl will rub right off. Give it a try

Missy Lane I have tried it numerous times and it is way easier for me to just heat and peel. The acetone is a total stinker for me

@imsylvia40814 жыл бұрын
Your tutorial gave me an idea to remove without a heat gun or gallons of acetone. Because you said the cups shouldn't be cleaned in the dishwasher, I got the Idea to remove the epoxy by placing the cup in hot water, just below boiling point. Came of fairly easy, actually seemed easier than what I seen here. I forgot to score it, I just started scraping, some parts just peeled off. I did have to put it back in the water a couple of times. This was a 20oz cup, it didn't have vinyl only tons of glitter, LOL, it took maybe 15 min tops to get most of it off and that's counting the 2 times I placed it back in the water. Now I have minimal sanding that I can do by hand. =-) Thanks for the ideas.

Please don't do this inside your house on the stove. go outside in a well ventilated area. the epoxy emits vapors when heated and you don'y want that in your house'

@nikkig20004 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm trying to avoid doing. Just received a personalized tumbler that wasn't worded right & the replacement was even worse. Come to find out, the owner of the Etsy based business was hospitalized and asked her sister, who's still in training, to help her make my replacement tumbler. Something told me to look & see if I can just strip them instead of throwing them out. I'm grateful to see that there's hope. I planned to only use them at home, if it couldn't be done. I couldn't dream of throwing away money like that. These tumblers are expensive.

Hello. I love your videos, thank you for caring about us. I just started this art form and followed your beginner instructions to the letter.... well, I thought did. 😕 Made a great woodgrain and water slide which I painted.....fist coat of epoxy....cured with many awkward areas where it seemed to pull away from cup. So I sanded etc and applied another coat....same outcome but worse! I can now start over but would like to know what I did wrong first!! Lol Repeat the good not the bad!!! 😂 Thank you!! Mimi D.

You should try oven cleaner for the bottom coat after you get the epoxy top. Spray it on set it aside and go back later wipe clean.

Can I apply a 2nd coat of epoxy while the 1st coat is still tacky? Thank you, and just love watching your work...
@henrysgirl41115 жыл бұрын
no, you want to wait until the first coat of epoxy gets hard, this is to ensure you have mixed it properly and it will cure right, putting over tacky epoxy that is not mixed correctly will remain toxic and is not safe to use.
