How to quickly upgrade gear to 120 (See description for Update) - Ghost of Tsushima Legends

UPDATE - If the purification ritual can be completed easily in a wave zero you can save even more time by purifying the cursed item, finishing that wave zero then running out of bounds. This will give you the purified token & also replace that cursed item at the same time.
This is the method I have been using to quickly upgrade a piece of gear from 110 to 120.
You can upgrade a single piece to 120 in about 20-30 minutes. Including getting the second perk. Depending on how quickly you can solo clear wave zero of gold survival & how quickly you can complete the cursed gear challenges, it may take a bit longer but it will be WAY faster than completing all the gear mastery challenges.
You can use this method to target the specific category of cursed gear that you need & force it to drop. So for example if you want to upgrade a Katana, you need to make sure you have no cursed Katanas & at least one cursed item in all the other categories. Want to upgrade a ranged weapon, make sure you have no cursed range weapons & so on...
For Cursed gear to start dropping you must have activated the mastery challenges on at least 1 piece of 110 gear.

If you purify a cursed item in a story and then die 3 times in ch2 you will always get a guaranteed cursed item in that category. It works just like dying on wave 1 in survival.

Ok I get the first part when your clearing the level zero wave and dying but what is the level when it say you receive the purified token what is happening there I’m confused

That’s what I do🤣 but I stopped now, I just keep my inventory clean on my charms and every game I play I get a cursed item, if it’s an easy challenge I do it fast, if it takes time I dismantle it. That way my cursed tokens number add up on its own and I don’t have to keep doing wave zero over and over again.

I think I'm missing something. After you get the item, you say to Equip the item & quit out once you've completed the challenge. But once you have completed the challenge, you are dead and it just gave you the item. How are you able to equip the item if the challenge is over and you are dead and it just gave you the item? I play on PS5 and am not able to equip and quit out from the Rewards screen (unless someone knows a way that I'm not doing)?

I been getting some good mastery missions if theres bad ones I don't know about. To me curse seem more annoying than mastery. 🤷‍♂️
