I have been struggling to master the quilters knot and how to bury the thread at the end of a strand. Thank you! Also, your explanation of how to distinguish among various thread weights and needle types is very helpful. So happy to have found your channel.

Great video. There are 3 things I've found makes life easier when basting a bed-size quilt .I use low adhesive masking tape to stick the backing fabric at the edges, to the table, after smoothing out any wrinkles. Then I get a long piece of very cheap thread and stitch half to one inch stitches starting in the middle, leaving enough thread for the person opposite to pick it up in another needle and take the basting to the other side from me .(It's fun and quick to ask friends to help, and you provide the tea and cake).Subsequent basting goes 4 inches apart either side this middle line till the edges of the quilt are reached. It's also easier to lift the needle from the back by putting a teaspoon on top of the quilt to help the needle back through after each basting stitch.

I heard from an old quilter that in the old days, summer quilts for beds were also made, cotton on cotton with no batting - as they was more appropriate for the very warm days of summer.

Great tutorial Vanessa! I recently finished the cover of a beautiful pastel quilt (Dover fabric). I used a basting spray I'd heard works well. Yep it sure did the job of basting! BUT it was a thick spray and gunned up my machine when I attempted to quilt it. I gave ample drying time and still...totally messed up my machine. So rather than do a terrible quilting on this beautiful fabric...im going to hand stitch it. Thanks for another great tutorial! Any new bag clubs starting up soon or quilt alongs? Looking forward to another club with you! Sincerely!

Great Video Vanessa, the only I would do differently is to catch the batting when you bury your knot. Of course you don't want to it to go through the backing fabric but catching the batting would make that knot more secure. I guess that is not so necessary for a small decorative piece.

Thank you so much for this ... I’ve been quilting for years, but still like to see how other people do it to see if I want to take something away from it. I do have a question. It seemed difficult for you to pull the needle through at times ... was this from the spray adhesive, by chance? I’ve always used the thread batting, creating a kind of large grid before quilting, which is THE most cumbersome part of making a quilt, in my opinion.
