I’m from Japan, planning to get one-year sabbatical from 2023/1 to travel. (Discussing with my boss now) It will be my last 20’s. I’m a bit scared bc I will be a solo female traveler, but I’m doing it! I’ve dreamed of this since college. Wish me luck♡ Also wishing you luck to all the determined future travelers! See you out there😊

Recently I found my passion and when I'm not doing this now I don't feel complete. I have started my travel channel with my partner as we try to make the best possible videos so our viewers can feel like they are on the journey with us. We love doing it and I hope one day I am able to put all my time into this rather than work and do it!!!

I turn 20 in a week and of course I dream of quitting my gas station job and traveling the world. It’s just overwhelming that at 20, you get hundreds of perspectives and voices trying to tell you what you should do. I have a plan in mind on how to travel and still get paid, which has been shut down many times by “dream killers” (something an inspirational speaker said) but I’m still gonna try! I am going into nursing school and I hope to work with first aid hospitals in third world/war torn countries as well as places like rural India where medical care may not be A+. Volunteer or paid, I get to do what I want and travel for it! I get to help people and travel which is everything I want:) thanks Brothers for inspirational video. #nurtureyourdreams
@vagabrothers6 жыл бұрын
It’s never easy to do, especially since a lot of the time the “dream killers” are the closest people to you - but at some point you either show them they are wrong or let them kill your dream. Choose the first option ✌🏼

This is also a good idea for homemakers after the kids have become adults. Because here's the thing---travel costs are mostly airfare and the roof over your head. Why not just stay longer? A person can shop and cook in a place with a stove and it can be cheap. I know too many women who wouldn't dream of going somewhere without their kids, or their husband, and it's really sad. A secure and happy home allows for individuals within the pod personal growth experiences! For those of us who don't work, why should we permanently stick around the house? Jeepers! Also, we never need to stop learning new things. Just because we are required to learn a foreign language in college doesn't mean it needs to end there. I studied French over 20 years ago, and decided it was high time to get it out and dust it off! I've since held some pretty great conversations in Montpellier, Marseille, Nice, Eze, Antibes.... As of last year I began studying Italian on DuoLingo (which is free!), and now my Italian is even better than my French! Thanks to AirBnB I have a great apartment for an entire month this Spring and I am going full immersion. I a NOT going to Instagram it, Twitter it or Facebook it.....I don't have social media accounts (other than watching other people's KZbin videos). This is for me alone---and then my husband, who will join me later in the month and then whisk me away to Paris. If absence makes the heart grow fonder...then I say "ooh la la!" The planet is big--we've got to explore it!!

I took a sabbatical right after highschool and would'nt change that year for anything. I went to Vietnam for 3 months to volunteer in an orphanage, traveled around Vietnam and Cambodia and went to Buenos Aires Argentina for 4 months to improve my spanish and 1 month of traveling through Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia. This was the best year of my life. I've learned sooo much about myself, the world surrounding me... My advice is just do it. if you don't do it know you'll regret it. It's just a year. A year means so little compared to how long we live. If you don't like your job, save up money and quit it, go live your life, experience freedom, new cultures, new people. One thing that I will tell to my children is to travel as much as they can and take a year off.

I hadn't travelled for 5 years. I decided to go visit Jamaica and visit family for only a meager 2 weeks. It transformed my life!!! Long story short, I will use my skills away from the health industry to get into property development and create a tourism and hospitality in the countryside of the Caribbean. I managed to get 5-1/2 weeks off end of and beginning of the financial year to get relevant time off. It's awesome welcome to my world on the road- Peace and One Love!!!😎❤

Realistically as well, most employers don't allow for this either. I can tell you that in the 4 different jobs I've had, none of my bosses would have allowed me to do this, regardless of working casual, part time or full time. I like these guys and the content they produce but the title of this video is super misleading and only relates to a small handful of people that would have the option to take a sabbatical.

Those opening questions were 💯 - the video may be titled "How to Quit Your Job", but for me the most valuable part was spending time to introspect *why* you want this sabbatical in the first place and setting expectations. Going into a sabbatical without concrete results for how it will make *you* better is a recipe for aimlessness and sabbatical burnout 😉 Thanks Vagabros!

A gap year between high school and college is one reasonable time to pull this off. If your parents/guardians approve of travel before graduating from high school, summer volunteering in another country is one way to do this if not a family vacation. Gap years can also be applied to time between university years/semesters, or even before looking for a job after graduating. There are ways to complete your education and travel, unless of course your parents/guardians homeschool and love to travel too; wouldn't that be something? This could especially work well if you obtain a solid internet connection and take online classes. I know this was a joke but I'm trying to earn a college degree right not and really relate to the feeling that school could be holding me back from traveling. However, I was able to secure a study abroad scholarship from the United States and I am now currently living in Russia! I never thought I could do both but here I am so I encourage you to look into whatever options are out there for students to travel and see which ones could work for you. :) Best of luck!

Varius Kidd I’m just finishing up my gap year between high school and college right now and it has honestly been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. I certainly wasn’t ready for college last year but now I am revived, confident, and more mature. I got to travel both within the US and live in Costa Rica. With my experiences I also got to volunteer and earn a scholarship so I would definitely say it was all worth it! I am a huge promoter of gap years now so if anyone has any questions I would love to answer them!
